Golf is very much a game of fine margins when it comes to the very top end of the sport and having a top quality golf coach can sometimes be the difference for many players when it comes to winning or coming up short.
Over the years, we’ve seen certain relationships blossom in the pro game with the likes of Hank Haney and Butch Harmon working in harmony with Tiger Woods, while Michael Bannon was the long-time coach behind a lot of Rory McIlroy’s success.
Naturally, every golfer is likely to have a different fit and over time, golfers do chop and change coaches as they go in search of those extra percentages to succeed.

One man who has been around the block and knows his coaches is current LIV Golf star, Anthony Kim.
Having been a PGA Tour player from 2006 and then coming back from hiatus to LIV in 2024, Kim has nearly twenty years of experience behind him.
And now, Kim has shared his opinion on the best golf coaches around.

Anthony Kim reveals his top seven golf coaches in the world
Taking to X to as he normally does to share his opinion on matters, Kim revealed he’d been asked who he thinks are the best coaches in golf.
“I get a lot of DMs asking who R some of the best coaches I would go 2. I’ve been around a lot but here is my personal list in no particular order & I think it’s important 2 note a coach maybe knowledgeable but not compatible w every student based on the delivery of the message,” Kim wrote.
And in the picture posted alongside his post, Kim named seven coaches he admires.

The five most expensive golf coaches in the world
While Kim’s list features some big names, these guys do not come cheap and there’s often a reason why it’s only the top players who are associated with them.
Indeed, according to a report from Golf.com back in 2015, the hourly rate for some of the best coaches around is quite something.
| Golf coach | Rate |
| Dave Pelz | $20,000 (full day) |
| Hank Haney | $15,000 (full day) |
| Jim Hardy | $5,000 (full day) |
| David Leadbetter | $1160 |
| Stan Utley | $1500 |
With figure like that, it’s little wonder the mere mortal in golf often has to make do with their local golf coach or head pro.
Still, these coaches have probably earned such riches and if you’re Hank Haney, for example, success with Tiger Woods gives you an immediate uplift.
