Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy left Shadow Creek Golf Club $10m richer after easily beating LIV Golf duo Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in the eagerly anticipated ‘Showdown’.

Golf fans were underwhelmed by the LIV vs PGA Tour match, which was the first time players from both tours have faced off in a one-off event since the PIF-backed league emerged in 2022.

On the course, McIlroy’s fast start made life difficult for the LIV pair, and victory was sealed before Shadow Creek’s iconic 17th had even been seen. Despite suffering a defeat, Koepka and DeChambeau said they would welcome a similar event emerging in the future.

Unsurprisingly, the Showdown has drawn attention from all corners of the golfing world, and LIV Golf player Anthony Kim shared his thoughts in a brief social media post.

“Great to see both LIV Golf and PGA Tour players getting paid last night. All four deserved it,” he wrote.

The American’s comments on the financial reward come just days after the USA confirmed the amount their players would receive at the Ryder Cup. Kim firmly believes that USA players are entitled to be paid for their efforts at Bethpage Black.

How much did Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka earn at The Showdown?

With Scheffler and McIlroy taking home $5m each, DeChambeau and Koepka were left empty-handed after Tuesday’s action concluded. Or were they?

It’s rumoured each player was paid a multimillion-dollar appearance fee to show up and play in Las Vegas. So, for the LIV Golf duo, the trip to Nevada was no waste.

Moving forward, one-off matches must be discontinued. Instead, the PGA Tour and the PIF must find a way to get the best players back playing together more frequently.

Golf fans would love nothing more than to watch Scheffler, Koepka, McIlroy, and DeChambeau battle it out week in and week out on the world’s best courses.
