Bryson DeChambeau, an ever-controversial figure, has been the source of discussion throughout the week’s build-up to the Ryder Cup.

TV analyst Brandel Chamblee was scathing with his remarks about the two-time U.S. Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau. He called DeChambeau a “captain’s nightmare”, after the YouTube star made comments about Rory McIlroy earlier in the week.

DeChambeau is one of LIV Golf’s brightest stars, and one of Team USA’s greatest assets going into the Ryder Cup in New York. A fellow LIV Golf star, Anthony Kim, has come out in defence of DeChambeau and had plenty to say about Chamblee in the process.

Anthony Kim slams Brandel Chamblee, ‘shut your mouth’

Another controversy surrounding Team USA is the issue of American players being paid at the Ryder Cup. It was a theme threaded throughout Luke Donald’s opening ceremony speech

Each American will be paid $500,000, with $300,000 being donated to charity. A number of players, including captain Keegan Bradley, said they will donate the full sum to charity instead.

Despite that, Chamblee said that player payments could be the reason Team USA lose the Ryder Cup. The ever-outspoken Kim had an emphatic response, bringing up his ongoing fallout with DeChambeau.

His post on X can be seen below.

That came just one day after Kim hit back against Chamblee’s “captain’s nightmare” statement about DeChambeau. Kim represented Team USA at the 2008 Ryder Cup, and, quoting a video of him securing a point in a singles match against Sergio Garcia, he mentioned that Chamblee never played at the event.

His full X post is below.

DeChambeau responded to Chamblee himself and seems unbothered by the simmering drama surrounding him. But it’s an unwelcome distraction for Team USA, in a week where concentration is pivotal.

Anthony Kim’s Ryder Cup record

In fairness to Kim, he knows exactly what it takes to secure victory at a home Ryder Cup. He was an important part of Team USA’s win at Valhalla in 2008.

Kim secured two points for the team, finishing the week with a 2-1-1 record. He was partnered with Phil Mickelson in both foursomes and fourball, going 1-1-1 in three sessions, and took an incredible win during Sunday singles against Garcia.

It was a five and four win against the Spaniard. He frustrated Garcia, who gradually imploded during the match, hitting multiple balls in the water on the seventh hole.

Kim’s victory was one of the more lopsided singles wins for a rookie in Ryder Cup history. After the match, Kim was visibly emotional, saying things like “I wouldn’t trade this for 10 million dollars.”

The match gave Team USA an early boost on Sunday and is remembered as a key moment in the 2008 U.S. victory.
