It was quite the day at the Cognizant Classic as Jake Knapp broke the course record but rather than it be a celebration of his efforts, golf fans have been left complaining once again.

Complaints about the PGA Tour in 2025 are commonplace at the moment and it looks like the Cognizant is the latest to get the ruthless fan treatment.

Fans have lamented the TV coverage in recent weeks, while even Scottie Scheffler came in for criticism after seemingly getting away with a ruling at the Genesis recently.

Scheffler and other big names like Rory McIlroy are not involved at the Cognizant Classic in Florida this week, leaving Jake Knapp to card a stunning 59 (12-under) opening round.

However, after players complained about the conditions of the PGA National course, golf fans have now taken their opportunity to stick the boot in.

Golf fans slam PGA National course after round one of the Cognizant Classic

While Jake Knapp got plenty of praise and the round of golf he produced was one of the best we’ve ever seen, golf fans over on social media seemed more intent with picking out the negatives of the PGA National course.

With overseeding a problem and easy pin positions, scoring was low all day and fans over on X have been all over the matter.

One fan branded the conditions as ‘ridiculous’, while another suggested the course resembled your average municipal golf course.

“Things that have hurt the PGA Tour more than losing a Jon Rahm to LIV. Removing match play from the schedule. Turning PGA National into a muni.”

With dwindling TV ratings in recent times, one golf lover suggested it was simply too easy for the pros.

“Bring back the real PGA National! Immediately. Don’t like this dart fest”

While another suggested that the course itself was losing it’s selling point by being so easy.

“This is ridiculous. PGA National’s USP is that it’s a tough track.”

Continuing the barrage of abuse, one fan claimed the PGA National had been ‘ruined’.

“PGA National has truly been ruined. How are we about to see a 59…”

While another fan had a rather extreme solution to get things sorted, adding:

“PGA National is a disgrace. Bulldoze it all”

With weather conditions set to remain stable, we could well see some seriously low numbers throughout the weekend in Florida.

Tiger Woods’ final round record under threat at the Cognizant Classic

With Jake Knapp shooting 12-under and three others right up at eight under par, there is a chance we see some record scoring over the week in Florida.

Tiger Woods shot a PGA Tour record low eight under in his final round at the Cognizant back in 2012 and if things carry on, there’s a chance that record gets eclipsed.

We’ve already seen Hideki Matsuyama break the overall record in 2025 with a 35-under par but right now, Jake Knapp and a few others might even go one better.
