Australian star Adam Scott leads the BMW Championship after carding a stunning 63 on day two at Castle Pines Golf Club.

Scott started the week outside the FedEx Cup top 50 but has now given his Tour Championship aspirations a considerable boost.

The 44-year-old looked completely at home on the longest course in PGA Tour history, making nine birdies during a bogey-free round.

Now, the former Masters champion has shed light on his recent turnaround.

Speaking to the media after his round, Scott admitted that correctly dialling in his iron specifications before the Scottish Open has made an enormous difference.

“It’s really my iron play that has been atrocious for two years, and that’s why I’ve been moving stuff around. I figured if I leave it the same, I’ll keep getting atrocious,” Scott explained.

He added: “But before the Scottish, we managed to really, like, sort my irons out, in what I’m using to shaft to grip to lofts to lie angles and club, the whole thing, complete working over, and as soon as we did that, it started feeling better.”

Adam Scott set to be the big winner at the BMW Championship

If Scott can continue his form over the weekend, he will jump an astonishing 37 places up to fourth in the FedEx Cup rankings, ahead of the likes of Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg and Rory McIlroy.

Keegan Bradley also looks set to be another big winner this week. The American is currently second and is projected to jump 39 places up to 11th.

At the other end of the projected FedEx Cup standings, Justin Thomas and Tommy Fleetwood are the two high-profile names at risk of missing the Tour Championship.

Thomas is currently three over, and Fleetwood is three under. Both will need significant improvements if they’re to extend their seasons and compete for golf’s most lucrative prize.
