Picking the ideal player in any sport is always a tough task and when it comes to golf, it’s no easier due to the sheer amount of world class players there’s been over time.

As we all know, the all-time greats of the game such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player are often mentioned by most in the sport.

But outside of that trio, there are some absolutely brilliant players who have achieved greatness in their own way and changed the game in different ways.

The modern-day player very much seems to have all the tools. Most can hit it a mile, plenty are good off the fairways, while in and around the greens remains the true art of the game and some of the oldest players on tour are still holding their own on that front.

Of course, ahead of the Presidents Cup this week, there’s plenty to talk about and one of those experienced TOUR players, Adam Scott, has been trying to build his ideal golfer.

Adam Scott builds his ideal golfer with parts of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods included

Speaking in an interview for Golfweek, Scott was tasked with effectively building the perfect golfer by taking bits from others.

And as with a lot of pros, Tiger Woods featured in there prominently.

“Cam Smith’s wedge and chipping, I think he’s the best currently,” Scott began.

“I could say Phil Mickelson but he’s lefty, so tricky. I would take Tiger’s iron play. It was the best for the bulk of his career.

“From, say, 2000-2020, his iron play never let him down, it was just so good. It never really let him down.

“Driving? Rory comes to mind. I’ve seen him drive the ball probably better than anyone ever. Putting… Tiger’s was pretty good. I got a couple of Tiger’s in there, but that’s fair enough.”

Hard to argue with Scott’s perfect golfer

Anyone who doesn’t include part of prime Tiger Woods in their build is either lying, or has some sort of agenda against him!

It’s quite telling that Scott has gone with Tiger’s putting and iron play here but he could easily have gone with his driving as well, which was the best on tour for a while due to the length.

Indeed, even around the greens and with a wedge in hand, Tiger was a magician and he often made some of the most difficult shots look easy.

Cam Smith and McIlroy then, will be happy to see their names included alongside Tiger here.
