With so much content out there for the modern golfer to look through to try and improve sometimes it’s easy to miss what some might consider the very basics of the game and according to Scottie Scheffler, that’s what he sees amateurs do all the time.
In a world dominated by YouTube and social media, the average golfer looking to improve can easily become bogged down with information.
That then leads to unhealthy habits, too many thoughts in the head and ultimately, worse golf.

It goes without saying, then, that if you’re going to listen to someone in the game, then taking advice from the world number one is not a bad place to start.
Indeed, speaking in 2024, Scottie Scheffler pointed something out he sees from amateurs constantly.

The problem amateur golfers have according to Scottie Scheffler
Every amateur out there is striving to improve and sometimes, the online tutorials can be helpful.
However, according to the world’s best player Scottie Scheffler, not everything comes down to working with the actual golf club.
Instead, Scheffler has previously revealed that his main problem he sees in amateur golfers is a lot simpler than anything to do with the golf swing.
“The thing I see amateurs do all the time…they go out and just expect to go on the range and just hit balls, and hit it far and swing hard and do all these great things,” Scheffler began.
“But most amateur golfers that struggle with their swing, it’s not because they lack co-ordination it’s because their bodies physically cannot move the way that you’re supposed to to be able to hit a golf ball properly.”
Golf is becoming more and more about being an athlete
We are very much accustomed to seeing players from other sports like the NBA, NFL and soccer hone their bodies to the point of near perfection.
Over the years, golf has never quite required that although Tiger Woods’ arrival did bring about a change in how golfers prepared and looked after themselves.
Now, this is more prevalent than ever and what Scheffler is saying here is absolutely spot on.
To be a good golfer in the modern game, you simply have to have the right workout plans in place and train your body on the movements needed to generate the right power.
As we see with the new wave of players coming through like Aldrich Potgieter or Jackson Koivun, athleticism is key and as Scheffler says here, more amateurs should be following suit.
