It’s not every day you write yourself into golfing history but DP World Tour player Nathan Kimsey has done just that during round two of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Kimsey is among a star studded field in Scotland looking to win out across the three courses in one of golf’s most unique events.

As it stands, Kimsey is not really in the running to win after opening rounds of 71 and 68 left him down in 43rd place going into the weekend.

Nevertheless, round two has proved to be a memorable one for Kimsey as he wrote his name into the DP World Tour record books and equalled a PGA Tour record at the same time.

With so many big names in the field – including the celebrities taking part in the pro-am part – the less known Nathan Kimsey might have expected to go under the radar all week.

However, after a quite stunning front nine around the Old Course at St Andrews, Kimsey has instead made himself the headline maker.

Remarkably, Kimsey made a record equalling nine birdies in a row as he plotted his way around the famous course and went out in just 28 shots.

Kimsey made par on the opening hole but then made the record run of birdies between the 2nd and 10th holes.

The 32-year-old Englishman has yet to win on the DP World Tour and will be frustrated he didn’t capitalise here. In the end, a nightmare back nine saw him make three bogeys and two double bogeys to tumble down the leaderboard.

Still, Kimsey will be proud of his achievement and in the future, it’s one he can look back on with immense pride.

The golfers to have made nine birdies in a row

The magic nine number is a record that is shared across both the DP World and PGA Tours.

Kimsey has joined both Matt Wallace and James Nitties in making nine in a row on the DP World side of things, while over on the PGA Tour, two players have done it.

Mark Calcavecchia was the first to do so when he made nine in a row at the Canadian Open in 2009.

Ten years on, Kevin Chappell then followed Calcavecchia into the record books by making nine in a row at The Greenbrier event for military personnel.

It means there are now five golfers to manage the feat. Whether we ever see 10 in a row, remains to be seen.
