If you’re Tiger Woods, there’s not much in the game of golf you can be taught but when it comes to watching someone like Rory McIlroy, it seems even the best can pick up a tip or two.
Woods, a 15-time major winner, could very much argue that there’s not much he doesn’t know when it comes to hitting a golf ball.
Over the years, Woods has crafted some of the best shots we’ve ever seen, while the Tiger Woods stinger remains a staple of modern golf.
Nevertheless, even the greatest of all time can pick up a trick or two and when watching Rory McIlroy hit a slight fade, Woods was intrigued to learn how to do it.

What Tiger Woods learnt off Rory McIlroy
Tiger Woods might be many people’s ‘GOAT’, but when it comes to the modern player, few are more admired than Rory McIlroy.
And during a shoot for TaylorMade back in 2024, Woods was in awe of one of the shots McIlroy could play, and even asked him to teach him.
Tiger asked McIlroy if he could demonstrate what he referred to as ‘that little mwah…that little kisser cut’.
And in showing Woods how to play it, McIlroy appeared to teach Tiger a thing or two.
“So I get a little closer, stand a little taller. Yeah…I can feel that when I’m taller I can keep my right side high,” McIlroy said.
In response, Woods suggested he was interested in the thought process, and picked up on how McIlroy would be able to ‘get on top of the golf ball’.
Why Tiger Woods was left stunned by Rory McIlroy recently
As in any sport, there is a passing of the baton and when it comes to golf, it feels like Tiger Woods is passing it onto one of Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler right now.
However, Woods is very much a student of the game and after watching McIlroy on the driving range recently, Woods was impressed.
At the time on another TaylorMade shoot, Woods was blown away by McIlroy’s speed with the driver and given how 2025 has gone so far, it’s served him well.
Right now, McIlroy is some ten majors behind Tiger but come the end of his career and on current form, the gap may close significantly.
