If you’re as good at golf as Justin Thomas, then partnering up or just being privy to seeing amateurs try and play the game is always going to bring it’s share of annoyances.

Thomas got back to winning ways at the RBC Heritage last week as he finally showed out again and proved just why he’s a multiple major champion.

Thomas’ return to form was a welcome sight for many and with three majors to come this year, the American will feel he’s a chance to add to his two big titles.

Nevertheless, despite being such a good player and seemingly, one of golf’s good guys, Thomas couldn’t help but have a moan about what he sees from amateur golfers regularly.

Justin Thomas shares why amateur golfers annoy him so much

Justin Thomas was speaking on a new video for Titleist and got onto the subject of how amateurs play golf and particularly, how they choose not to hit the right club.

And for Thomas, it’s one of the most annoying and frustrating things about playing with an amateur golfer that he sees regularly in pro-ams on the PGA Tour.

“That’s number one. I see it every week in pro-ams. For some reason, amateurs never want to hit enough club. They’re holding onto the 9-iron they hit 150 back in 2003 and that’s how far they hit it,” Thomas admitted.

Thomas then went further on the club section for amateurs and suggested how they can save plenty of shots at the same time.

“If you’re between clubs, if the pins at the back, hit less club. If there’s trouble short, hit more club. Like that could be the easiest way for them to save five-ten shots a round. They should be thinking little things, like there’s trouble right I’ll hit it further left.”

The two-time major winner then claimed when he sees amateurs not take enough club it leaves him furious.

“It’s infuriating to me to watch amateurs in his pro-ams not hit enough club. This game is hard enough already. Like, just hit more club, I dare you to hit it over the green.”

Amateur golfers get so much wrong about professional golf

While many golfers who play at all levels think they might be able to match some on the professional scene, the fact is, you just can’t.

For example, Ryan Lavner recently shot 88 and 89 from the member tees at Augusta National, which would put him at 16 and 17 over par for one round.

Another example is how the pros view the average amateur, with Jon Rahm suggesting 100 shots might not be enough of an advantage.

I don’t think they could deal with it. Honestly, you could give them 100 shots and they might not win. They’re not going to get to the dream at two or 10, 11 forget about it, 12 forget about it. 14 they could spend half the day going up and down on that green,” Rahm said.

“It really would be fascinating to watch one day, but it will never happen unfortunately!”

It goes without saying, then, that the average golfer would do well to listen to someone like Justin Thomas when it comes to clubbing up!
