Sergio Garcia has enjoyed a fantastic golfing career so far, although he did endure an underwhelming season for his high standards.

He did manage to finish ninth in the LIV Golf individual championship, in which the Fireballs GC captain secured one win.

But Garcia missed out on a European Ryder Cup spot, with captain Luke Donald opting against picking the former Masters champion.

The Spaniard missed the cut at The Masters this season, and finished T67 and T34 at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship respectively.

Garcia failed to qualify for the US Open, although his season has just continued at the Spanish Open on the DP World Tour.

Sergio Garcia’s tip to help amateur golfers hit driver off the deck

He boasts 16 career wins on the DP World Tour, for which he once shared a tip for amateur golfers looking to improve with the challenging driver off the deck shot.

Offering demonstrations, Garcia explained in 2019: “Driver off the deck is not the easiest shot in the world.

“I’ve used it a few times here and there, usually on a par five, where you can get there in two, maybe a little bit into the wind. So you want to keep the ball down.

“A three wood might come up a little bit too high and it might not get all the way to the green. If you have one of those situations with a decent lie on the fairway, then you can maybe give it a little go.

“When it comes down to hitting driver off the deck, you don’t want to be hitting down on it, because the driver already doesn’t have a lot of loft to be able to keep that impact.

“Ball position is, you just move it a tiny bit left of maybe where you usually put it, and that should help you get on a good path and let the ball rise a little bit.

“You need a decent lie in the fairway. Here, the lie is okay, it’s not amazing, a little bit of a downhill lie and fairly tight. So driver is probably not going to come out too high.

“There’s always a little uncertainty when it comes to hitting driver off the deck, because of how little loft the driver has and how low the ball is. Most likely the ball might cut a little bit.

“For the most part, you want to aim maybe a little bit left and just kind of put a normal swing and realize that the ball is not going to come out too high.

“So you just play with that, and then just try to keep it nice and shallow. When I say stay shallow, try to swing along the ground as much as possible.

“Don’t get high up on it, or try to mash the ball into the ground. You’re hitting driver, so the ball is going to go if you catch it well.

“Just a couple of little things for you to remember to think of when you are trying to hit driver off the deck.

“We talked about ball position probably being a little bit forward on your stance. It’s important that you have a decent lie, maybe if you sit it up a little bit, even better.

“Then nice and stable through the shot, don’t try too hard, let the loft of the club help you, don’t try to lift it up or anything like that.

“You know the ball is not going to come out too high, so let it come out the way it should be, which is a little low and maybe with a little bit of a fade.”

What is Sergio Garcia’s history with the DP World Tour?

It’s fair to say Garcia has an interesting history with the DP World Tour, having become its youngest player to make a cut, which he did in 1995 aged 16.

He’s gone on to win 16 tournaments, although his membership for next year is up in the air given that he’s only played twice this year.

Sergio Garcia DP World Tour wins

Garcia needs to play in four regular events outside the major championships, but he has only appeared in the BMW International Open and the Spanish Open.

He was, of course, among the players fined by the DP World Tour for appearing in LIV Golf tournaments, just like his fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm.
