Jordan Spieth has experienced all sorts of problems with his game over the past few years, and the 2025 PGA Tour season has been a real struggle for him.

Spieth has not won on the PGA Tour since April 2022, and he is in a tough spot now concerning his chances of qualifying for the final two legs of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and indeed, the Ryder Cup team.

Before the start of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Spieth said that he is still hopeful of making the Ryder Cup team.

However, the three-time major champion is well aware that he needs to make a big statement over the next few weeks.

Spieth let a great chance slip to earn FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup points last week at the Wyndham Championship.

There is a sense right now that whatever Spieth is trying simply isn’t working.

He needs to go back to basics and remember what made him so good a decade ago.

However, it might be difficult for him to do that if he ends up qualifying for the Tour Championship and then the Ryder Cup team.

Jordan Spieth missing the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup is what he needs

While Spieth is doing his utmost to force his way inside the top 30 on the FedEx Cup points list and to enter into contention for a place on the Ryder Cup team, what he actually needs is a few months off to help him reset and go again.

The 32-year-old and his wife have just had their third child and that in itself will have brought huge stress into Spieth’s life.

Juggling competing on the PGA Tour and being a father for the third time cannot be an easy thing to do.

Most of Spieth’s focus over the past few months has been on playing golf and it could be argued that he is trying too hard to win tournaments right now, rather than just sticking to his process.

If the man from Dallas, Texas, does play well this week in Memphis and next week at the BMW Championship, he will qualify for the Tour Championship at the end of the month.

He will then be in contention for a place on the US Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black. If he does make Keegan Bradley’s team, the next six weeks will be incredibly hectic for Spieth, with both on-course and off-course commitments to manage.

A break from golf would do Spieth the world of good right now. It would enable him to return home with his young family and put in some hard work on the range in order to get his swing finely tuned in time for the start of next season.

Spieth obviously won’t want to miss out on the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup but in the long-term, it might be exactly what he needs in order to reinvigorate his career.

Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour results and stats from 2024 vs 2025

Spieth has been a shadow of his former self over the past few years.

However, that’s not to say that he hasn’t made some marginal gains over the last 12 months.

Strokes gained approach138th53rd
Strokes gained around the green108th26th

Spieth’s stats have clearly improved on the whole this season.

But has that translated into better results?

Spieth has clearly been more consistent as far as his results go this season, so he’s certainly trending in the right direction from last year.

However, he still hasn’t managed to get over the line with a victory, and he has just two top-5 finishes to his name in 2025.

Spieth needs a complete reset if he is to come back stronger in the 2026 PGA Tour season, and playing more golf over the course of the next six weeks could set him back, and his approach will be very result-orientated.

He has to trust the process now and continue to work on the things that have helped him greatly improve this season.
