Scottie Scheffler’s 29th birthday was one to forget in the end, after he put in an uncharacteristically poor performance on day three of the Travelers Championship.
Scheffler carded a round of two-over par 72 on his third round of the Travelers Championship, after starting with a triple bogey seven at TPC River Highlands.
Justin Thomas lauded Scheffler’s remarkable consistency before they teed off on day three of the Travelers.
However, that famed consistent brilliance was nowhere to be seen on Saturday. The man from Dallas, Texas, carded only his fifth over-par score for 18 holes in his last 55 rounds.
His incredible consistency has seen him finish inside the top-25 in all 13 events he has played this season.

And that remarkable run of form from Scheffler has been made to look even better by Rory McIlroy, after the Northern Irishman’s recent struggles.
His third round at TPC River Highlands really was a huge shock to everyone.
However, something happened after his final hole that proved exactly why he is so consistently great.
What Scottie Scheffler did with Ted Scott on the last hole at the Travelers
Scheffler will obviously be devastated that he blew his chances of racking up his 17th PGA Tour win this weekend.
With players like Scheffler, being in contention and winning is what gets the juices flowing.
He won’t have a chance to do that on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t give absolutely everything to shoot the lowest score that he possibly can.
And something he did after holing his birdie putt on the 18th hole to shoot 72 on Saturday was a great example of his competitiveness.
Scheffler looked extremely focused after his ball dropped in the hole; he went over to Ted Scott and gave his caddie a fist pump.
The 29-year-old clearly hadn’t given up on anything, and he gave that putt on the 18th hole the same attention he would have had he been four or five-under par at the time.

That professionalism, sheer drive and determination is obviously what has made Scheffler so great.
If he didn’t have that attitude, he certainly wouldn’t have made 58 cuts in a row on the PGA Tour.
Scheffler’s remarkable consistency on the PGA Tour deserves huge praise
It’s not just the fact that he hasn’t finished outside the top-25 this season that is amazing.
Scheffler hasn’t missed a cut since the FedEx St. Jude Championship way back in 2022.
Golf is arguably the hardest sport in the world to perfect, so going three years without missing a weekend is truly sensational.
His results in 2025 are jaw-dropping really.
| 2025 PGA Tour season | Scheffler’s results |
| Events played | 13 |
| Wins | 3 |
| Top-5s | 7 |
| Top-10s | 10 |
| top-25s | 13 |
| Cuts missed | 0 |
| Consecutive cuts made | 58 |
We can only marvel at Scheffler’s consistent brilliance, and he will probably bounce back on Sunday at the Travelers and post another top-10 finish.
All he will be thinking about now is how to move forward from his round of two-over par on Saturday.
And one thing’s for sure, he will never stop grinding even when the chips are down.
