There are some fine players eligible to play for Team Europe right now and the future is also looking bright for the Ryder Cup holders as we head towards Adare Manor in 2027.

Luke Donald very much kept with the same programme for Bethpage Black as he took 11 out of the 12 who had won in Rome in 2023. That decision paid off as well, with Europe storming into a big lead before hanging on to win.

Nevertheless, any sports team needs to evolve, adapt and improve and with the 2027 tournament set to be held in Ireland, things may look pretty different.

Of course, the mainstays of the team like Tommy Fleetwood, Rory McIlroy and hopefully, Jon Rahm, will remain key.

But further down, or even in the automatic qualification spots, we could see some new faces and one man who is surely on Europe’s radar right now is emerging English star, Marco Penge.

Marco Penge could be Europe’s secret weapon at the 2027 Ryder Cup

When you look at emerging talents on the DP World Tour, Marco Penge is right up there with the very best of what Europe have to offer.

Penge has been on the periphery of things for some time now but his 2025 season has seen him explode into life.

Two wins in the ’25 season, at the Hainan Classic and then the Danish Golf Championship, have propelled Penge into 3rd in the Race to Dubai, behind only Tyrrell Hatton and Rory McIlroy.

As a result, Penge will be getting a PGA Tour card and have the chance in the next two years to really make a splash and prove himself in America.

In addition, Penge is also flying at this weekend’s Spanish Open, where he currently leads as he looks to make it three wins for the year.

As far as someone who can push someone out of the 12 from Bethpage, then Marco Penge is looking like that man right now.

Marco Penge’s stats for 2025

There is a lot to like about Penge’s game but the obvious standout in his performance is just how far he can hit the golf ball.

For 2025, Penge is averaging just shy of 319 yards off the tee. As a comparison, Rory McIlroy is averaging 323 yards and is widely regarded as one of the longest in the game.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, for example, averages down around the 308 yard mark.

Penge, though, is more than just a big hitter. He ranks 8th in putts per GIR, 10th in GIR, and while he’s ranked 73rd for driving accuracy, that’s an improvement on being ranked 165th in 2024, showing just which way his game is trending.

Those stats, in addition to being a proven winner already and still being only 27, make Penge one of the brightest up and comers in all of golf.
