The PGA Tour returns this week with the BMW Championship, with Justin Rose having just won the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Rose almost didn’t play the St. Jude Championship, where he battled past J.J. Spaun in a playoff after they both finished on 16-under.

TPC Southwind played host to the St. Jude Championship, with the top 50 having made the cut for the BMW Championship at Caves Valley.

Jordan Spieth and Min Woo Lee were among the 20 players whose PGA Tour season ended last week, with another 20 to be cut ahead of the Tour Championship.

East Lake plays host to the Tour Championship later this month, representing the third and final FedExCup Playoff event on the PGA Tour.

World number one Scottie Scheffler currently leads the FedExCup standings, followed by Rory McIlroy in second.

Both players are in the field for the BMW Championship, and the PGA Tour have made a fantastic decision involving the pair before the action has even got underway.

Scheffler and McIlroy will play together in rounds one and two of the tournament, which should make for box-office viewing from day one.

The former will be out for glory after finishing just one shot off the lead at the St. Jude Championship, while the latter should be feeling refreshed after skipping the event altogether.

But Scheffler and McIlroy are certainly not the only intriguing pairing for rounds one and two, with the PGA Tour absolutely making the very most of the current situation.

Having just played out a thrilling playoff, Rose and Spaun are paired for Thursday and Friday in Owings Mills, Maryland.

They are joined by the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Thomas, as well as Russell Henley and Ben Griffin.

J.T. Poston meanwhile will play on his own after Sepp Straka’s withdrawal for personal reasons reduced the field from 50 to 49.

And while Scheffler and McIlroy will be under big pressure to perform, they do have relief in one regard in terms of the Ryder Cup.

Both have already qualified for their respective teams, but a long list of other players will be fighting for their spots at Bethpage Black.

Importantly for the Americans involved, the top six eligible players following the conclusion of the BMW Championship will make Keegan Bradley’s team.
