The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings made the first playoff event, the St Jude Championship, at TPC Southwind last week.

While most spectators were focused on the exciting battle between Justin Rose, J.J. Spaun, Scottie Scheffler, and Tommy Fleetwood for the win, there were other key storylines.

Many players were eliminated from the playoffs after failing to qualify for this week’s BMW Championship in Baltimore.

20 players exited the FedEx Cup Playoffs after St Jude Championship

The following 20 players finished between 51st and 70th in the FedEx Cup standings, so they will not be in the field for the BMW Championship.

Chris Kirk, who made the top 10 at the St Jude Championship, and Aldrich Potgieter, who won the Rocket Classic earlier this season, were the two closest to making the cut.

Rickie Fowler (48th), Jhonattan Vegas (49th), and J.T. Poston (50th) only just qualified for the BMW Championship with solid results last week.

Another 20 players will face elimination this Sunday, as only the top 30 participate in the Tour Championship at East Lake.

The five biggest names missing from the BMW Championship

Jordan Spieth is the biggest name to miss out on the BMW Championship this week. He finished 54th in the FedEx Cup standings after another disappointing performance at the St Jude Championship.

Min Woo Lee is another surprising omission because he won earlier this season at the Houston Open. His issue was missing the cut at three of the four majors.

Aaron Rai finished in a tie for 23rd place at the Tour Championship in 2024, but he will not even make the BMW Championship this year.

2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark failed to make the top 50 in the FedEx Cup despite his top-five finish at the Open Championship.

Tony Finau has now gone over two years without a win on the PGA Tour, and this season was far more disappointing than the last.
