The 80th edition of the US Women’s Open is now underway, with Nelly Korda among the star-studded field.
Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin plays host to the US Women’s Open, the second of the five major championships on the LPGA Tour.
Brandel Chamblee thinks the LPGA Tour can make Korda a bigger star, with the latter currently the top-ranked player in the world.
Korda clinched a stunning seven wins in the 2024 season, which included a major title at the Chevron Championship.
The success turned the American into a two-time major champion, with her first win having arrived at the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship.

LPGA Tour make fantastic Nelly Korda decision at the US Women’s Open
And unsurprisingly, she is now among the featured groups for round one of the US Women’s Open at Erin Hills.
And that is certainly a smart decision from the LPGA Tour, but more so is the fact she has been grouped with fellow stars Lexi Thompson and Charley Hull.

Both are also hugely popular figures in the women’s game, and are certain to attract plenty of attention on Thursday in Wisconsin.
The trio will be eager to start the major off brightly, and their abilities could just inspire each other to really get going early at the tricky course.
Other very exciting groupings include Jeeno Thitikul, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang, and Lauren Coughlin, Hannah Green and Rio Takeda.
Nelly Korda groupings echo Scottie Scheffler’s at the PGA Championship
The brilliant decision from the LPGA Tour is very similar to one taken by the PGA Tour at the PGA Championship earlier this month.
In a very wise move, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele were grouped together for rounds one and two.

Scheffler went on to win the tournament at Quail Hollow for his third major championship title, with Schauffele and McIlroy finishing T28 and T47 respectively.
Fans will have undoubtedly been thrilled to have been able to watch the top three players in the world rankings come together, with a similar scenario now playing out on the LPGA Tour.
| Year | Tournament | Score | Margin | Runner-up |
| 2021 | Women’s PGA Championship | −19 (70-63-68-68=269) | 3 strokes | Lizette Salas |
| 2024 | Chevron Championship | −13 (68-69-69-69=275) | 2 strokes | Maja Stark |
The high-profile trio don’t occupy the top three spots in the world rankings, but Thompson is a former major champion, while Hull is a two-time LPGA Tour winner.
They have all been superb in helping grow women’s golf in recent times, with that growth certain to continue, particularly with star-studded pairings like theirs at such a major event.
