Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are undoubtedly the best two golfers in the world at the moment but there’s a startling stat staring everyone in the face that highlights just how good Scheffler is.
Scheffler won the BMW Championship in fine fashion this weekend to cement his spot as world number one.
In overhauling Robert MacIntyre’s four shot lead, Scheffler once again showed everyone else on the PGA Tour who the top dog is right now and ahead of the TOUR Championship, it’s hard to see anyone but Scheffler winning.
Still, while everyone who watches golf knows that Scheffler is the best player out there, when it comes to the distance he’s put between himself and the rest, it’s staggering.

Scottie Scheffler’s gap to Rory McIlroy shows just how dominant he is
The OWGR is something that many in golf feel is a bit of a flawed concept.
It is. though, the yardstick we have for measuring who the best is right now and as it stands, Scottie Scheffler is way out on his own.
However, while Scheffler’s place at the summit is unquestionable, what is more frightening for the rest of the field is just how far ahead he is.
According to the OWGR, Scheffler accumulates an average of 21.2265 points through the season is just shy of ten points clear of Rory McIlroy behind him in second.
Still, that isn’t even the most alarming aspect of all this. That comes when you look at a similar gap from McIlroy to the next player down and realise you have to go all the way down to the 115th ranked player, Taylor Moore, before the gap is the same.
On that basis, this is just another example of Scheffler’s dominance and as it stands, he’s going to go as close as anyone ever has to matching Tiger Woods’ streak as world number one.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 season in numbers
As if 2024 wasn’t good enough for Scottie Scheffler, there’s an argument to say he’s playing even better this season.
Scheffler himself believes his putting is the big difference in 2025 and if he’s bringing that up, then there’ll be some truth to it.
In terms of pure numbers though and his record in events, it’s little wonder Scheffler is so far ahead at the top of the OWGR.
