Scottie Scheffler continues to increase the gap between himself and his rivals, with the world number one winning for a fifth time this season at the BMW Championship on Sunday.
Heading into the final round of the BMW Championship, it appeared that Scottie Scheffler was on course to register another top three finish following the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Robert MacIntyre boasted a significant lead at Caves Valley.
However, Scheffler was able to capitalise as MacIntyre toiled in Maryland. A final round of 67 was enough to give the 29-year-old his fifth victory of the year.
If there was any doubt at all, Scheffler is definitely going to be the overwhelming favourite to win the Tour Championship in the coming days.
Scottie Scheffler asked if he is playing the best golf of his career after his win at the BMW Championship
There is an argument that Scheffler is playing the best golf of his career right now. While he won nine times worldwide in 2024, Scheffler added two majors to his collection in recent months.
Scheffler was not at his best at times at the BMW Championship. And yet, his victory felt inevitable as soon as he hit the front on Sunday at Caves Valley. There is no question that fans are witnessing something special right now.

Scheffler was asked on Golf Channel whether he is playing the best golf of his career right now after his triumph in the second FedEx Cup playoff event.
“It’s hard to say. I feel like I have made some improvements in my putting. I feel like this year I have made a lot of key putts,” he said.
“Today was one of the first days where I was in contention where I wasn’t really holing the putts. I still got on the greens this afternoon but they were pretty tough to putt.
“Overall I feel like I am making improvements and today I did a really good job of staying patient, especially when things weren’t going my way on the back nine, and managed to close it out.”
How Scottie Scheffler’s statistics in 2025 compare with 2024
Scheffler is unlikely to match his tally of wins from 2024. If he sticks to the same schedule as 12 months ago, he is likely to only play at the Hero World Challenge after the Tour Championship.
There is a chance that he may feature at the Procore Championship ahead of the Ryder Cup, with Keegan Bradley keen to have his players tee it up in Napa.
But of course, Scheffler has doubled the number of majors he won in 2024. And it says something that he passed the very different tests posed by Quail Hollow and Royal Portrush with flying colours.
Scheffler’s strokes gained numbers also tell a story, with his game from tee to green being virtually flawless for two years now.
| Strokes gained category | Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour rank (2024) | Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Tour rank (2025) |
| Off the tee | 2nd | 1st |
| Tee to green | 1st | 1st |
| Approach | 1st | 1st |
| Around the green | 17th | 18th |
| Putting | 77th | 16th |
| Total | 1st | 1st |
Clearly, he has made massive strides with his putting this year. And that has meant that he can afford to be less impressive with his driver or irons at times and still win.
Unlike 2024, Scheffler has been world class in every single category this season. So while he may be reluctant to pat himself on the back for too long, it is surely fair to say that Scheffler has never been harder to beat than he is right now.
