Scottie Scheffler has put the golfing world on notice ahead of the Tour Championship with yet another promising display in the FedEx Cup playoffs, with the world number one winning for the fifth time this year at the BMW Championship.
Scottie Scheffler looked ominously impressive at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week as he finished in a tie for third. It was the 29-year-old’s first tournament since winning The Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
His wait for a fifth victory of the season did not last long, however. Scheffler once again managed to put himself in contention at Caves Valley and was able to capitalise as Robert MacIntyre endured a difficult day. There is no question that Scheffler is going to be the overwhelming favourite at East Lake next week.
He did not quite have his best form for much of this week. Scheffler was uncharacteristically poor with his irons at times during the BMW Championship. However, that certainly makes his victory in Maryland all the more alarming for his rivals.
What Scottie Scheffler became the first player to do on the PGA Tour since 1973 at the BMW Championship
PGA Tour fans have got used to seeing Scheffler in contention every time he tees it up. You would have to go back to the 2024 BMW Championship for the last time Scheffler finished outside the top 30. He has played 26 tournaments worldwide since then.

And his form seems even more impressive when you consider that Scheffler has now finished inside the top eight in 13 successive events.
In fact, as noted by Justin Ray on X, Scheffler has become the first player to put together that kind of run on the PGA Tour since 1973.
The last PGA Tour event where Scottie Scheffler failed to finish inside the top eight
It is amazing to think of everything that has happened since a PGA Tour event concluded with Scheffler finishing outside of the top eight.
It seems like a lifetime ago now that he was looking extremely rusty after missing the opening weeks of the season with a hand injury sustained at Christmas.
You have to go back to The Players Championship for the last time Scheffler finished outside the top eight on tour.
Since then, Rory McIlroy has completed the Career Grand Slam. Meanwhile, Scheffler has managed to double his tally of majors while also moving to within a US Open victory of completing the Career Grand Slam himself.
Scheffler has now won five times in those 13 starts, including at the PGA Championship and The Open.
And in truth, it would now be a huge shock if Scheffler did not overtake Weiskopf’s tally when he returns to East Lake.
