It is often said that in professional golf, you will not meet a better character than Shane Lowry.
The jovial Irishman has forged a reputation for himself as one of the most likeable players on the PGA Tour.
However, Lowry hasn’t been quite so relaxed and easy-going both on and off the golf course over the past couple of months.
He seems to have taken a leaf out of his good friend Rory McIlroy‘s book, and that decision has backfired badly.
It all started back in April, when an angry Lowry gave reporters at The Masters a real dressing down after a poor finish to his third round.

And just like his close friend McIlroy, things seemed to have snowballed for him ever since then.
The Masters champion made the decision to snub all media duties during all four rounds of the PGA Championship, and then the first two rounds at the US Open as well.
That was because McIlroy felt hard done by following the fallout of his driver being deemed non-conforming by the PGA of America at Quail Hollow in May.
Shane Lowry’s decision to take the Rory McIlroy route has backfired
Lowry has been more angry than usual out on the golf course this year.
That obviously stems from his frustrations at failing to get a win, despite having been in contention regularly.
However, things started to really go downhill for Lowry after he finished in a tie for second at the Truist Championship at the start of May.
He basically handed the title to Sepp Straka, and has been a shadow of his former self since then.
The Irishman has failed to secure a top-10 finish in the four events he has played since the Truist, and he has missed two cuts.
Lowry was criticised for his poor temperament during the US Open out on the course, and his behaviour off the course has left a lot to be desired as well.

The 2019 Open champion has apparently taken the same route as McIlroy, and it clearly hasn’t been working for him one little bit.
Lowry’s PGA Tour results prove one thing
The apparently easy going Lowry has spoken to the media just once since the Truist Championship, after his round of 69 at the Memorial Tournament.
It almost feels like he and McIlroy have colluded with each other to snub the press.
Since Lowry’s decision to pretty much blank the media over the past six weeks or so, he has struggled for form.
The one-time major champion has performed poorly in general during the last four events since his disappointing ending at the Truist.
And he’s having a shocker at the Travelers Championship this week as well. After rounds of 72 and 73, he finds himself down in a tied for 63rd in a 70-man field.
Perhaps Lowry needs to start speaking to the media again, like McIlroy has done now, and taking more of a lighthearted look at himself – just like he used to.
