Scottie Scheffler has got his own back on Rory McIlroy over the past few weeks.
It was McIlroy who set the tone for the 2025 PGA Tour season with wins at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The PLAYERS Championship and of course, The Masters.
However, Scheffler has responded emphatically, with three wins of his own including the PGA Championship and the Memorial Tournament.
The race is now on and the question is being asked, who will win more majors out of Scheffler and McIlroy?
After the Northern Irishman won The Masters, many fans would have suggested that the 35-year-old was on course to run away from the American.

That has now switched though, after Scheffler’s fine recent form.
On Saturday, Jordan Spieth suggested that Scheffler is the best there has ever been when it comes to the control of his clubface.
The Dallas native really does seem to be invincible right now, and perhaps he has McIlroy to thank for his imperious form.
Scottie Scheffler meant every word he said after Rory McIlroy won The Masters
Scheffler is a man on a mission right now.
What makes him so good is the fact that he maintains the same intensity for every shot during a 72-hole tournament.
And he never gets too high or too low out on the golf course.
There’s a real argument to be made that the three-time major champion is on another level entirely to McIlroy right now.

If someone had said that one month ago you would have thought they had lost the plot.
Scheffler has turned the afterburners on since the beginning of May, winning three out of the four tournaments he has played and recording a tie for fourth at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
And looking back to around one month ago, something Scheffler said about McIlroy’s Masters win now seems incredibly pertinent.
The 28-year-old spoke to the press after he won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch last month.
And Scheffler highlighted how McIlroy’s win at The Masters motivated him to work even harder.

He said, “I think any time somebody has beaten any of us out here, I think we’re all — I guess you could say inspired, but I think we’re all fired up to come out here and compete. I think that’s what’s great about our game. Week in and week out, we get to come out here and compete. This week I was the best player. I have the week off, and we’ll see the week after who is the best player at the PGA. Rory has been playing some tremendous golf this year. The career grand slam was really special to watch. I was glad to be able to be there for it. I think any time you’re getting beat, you’re always fired up just a little bit extra to go out and practice. I feel like my game is trending in a good direction. I’m excited to start the rest of the season.“
Scheffler’s numbers over the past three years have been truly remarkable.
It’s little wonder why he’s five points clear of McIlroy at the top of the Official Golf World Rankings right now.
The gap between Scheffler and McIlroy is roughly the same as the one between world number three Xander Schauffele, and 79th ranked Matthew Fitzpatrick.

It will be fascinating to watch the two best golfers in the world battle it out over the course of the next few months of the season.
