Players from LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have once again come together this week for the US Open at Oakmont.

Such a scenario has become rare in modern golf, with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf seemingly still at loggerheads with one another.

But their star players have been forced to share the course at Oakmont, with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau paired with Xander Schauffele, and Brooks Koepka paired with Justin Thomas.

It was another chance for LIV Golf players to demonstrate their ability on the biggest of stages, but it certainly hasn’t gone their way at the US Open so far.

After the second round, which was suspended due to evening storms, it is the PGA Tour that is showing its strength in depth.

LIV Golf suffers big blow to the PGA Tour at the US Open

None of the PGA Tour superstars are truly impressing, with world number one Scottie Scheffler sitting T23.

The Masters champion Rory McIlroy meanwhile only just made the cut, with the same not able to be said of Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Ludvig Aberg and Thomas among other big names.

Still, all the leading candidates to win the US Open are on the PGA Tour, with Sam Burns top of the pile heading into the weekend.

He is followed by J.J. Spaun in second place, Viktor Hovland in third, and Adam Scott and Ben Griffin in T4.

Flying the flag for LIV Golf is Brooks Koepka, with the five-time major champion sitting in a tie for eighth place.

How have LIV Golf players performed at the 2025 US Open?

Many LIV Golf players struggled early at the PGA Championship, and that situation has now been repeated at the US Open.

There was once again plenty of expectation on their big names to shine at Oakmont, with 14 full time LIV Golf players having started the major championship.

Koepka is closely followed by a handful of his fellow LIV Golf representatives in the leaderboard, with Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm among the hopefuls looking for a late push over the weekend.

But defending champion DeChambeau has crashed out of the major tournament, along with veteran Phil Mickelson.

LIV Golf individual leader Joaquin Niemann, who has four wins to his name this season, also missed the cut.

Mickelson named Niemann the world’s best golfer earlier this year, but the Chilean failed to deliver in Pennsylvania once more.

Just three players in the entire field are under par after two rounds, but LIV Golf players should undoubtedly be more disappointed than their PGA Tour counterparts at Oakmont at this stage.

As witnessed already, things can change very quickly, with Koepka currently in the most promising position to upset the status quo.
