Jordan Spieth was in awe of Bryson DeChambeau, when speaking about the LIV Golf star a few years back.
DeChambeau has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, whilst Spieth has been heading in the opposite direction.
This season, DeChambeau has been driving the ball longer and straighter than ever, and he’s one of the top three most in-form golfers heading into the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
However, the same can’t be said for his fellow Dallas resident unfortunately. The three-time major champion hasn’t won since 2022.
And it has been suggested that Spieth has become far too mechanical out on the golf course.

There’s undoubtedly some truth to that, but the fact is that isn’t always a bad thing.
Just look at how DeChambeau operates on the course!
Jordan Spieth on why Augusta National will change because of Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau was in contention to win The Masters last month, before Rory McIlroy eventually won the green jacket.
Before his win at LIV South Korea this week, he had crumbled during the last four events on the final day.
So that win at The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club will be crucial for him moving forward.
One tournament that DeChambeau will undoubtedly win before his career is done is The Masters – it will surely happen one day.
And back in 2021, Spieth even suggested that Masters officials will have to change the layout at Augusta National in order to provide some kind of defence against DeChambeau’s length:

“We were in Boston, sitting there having lunch watching the telecast just before The Masters, and they’re showing Bryson. I’m like, this guy has to lose The Masters to not win The Masters. His fairways, how far he’s flying the golf ball, if it’s warm, number two, his fairway is 70 yards wide, number three he flies it into the up-slope. You get to eight, he carries the bunker, it’s 80 yards wide. Nine, his fairway on nine goes from the scoreboard off number one, 90 yards left of the fairway, to the bunkers off number seven. That’s his fairway – it’s a 1000 yards wide.
“If you’re hitting it straight and hitting it far, it should obviously be a massive advantage. They’ve done a lot to that golf course, after tiger had won a number of times, because he hit it that much further than other guys. They lengthened so many holes I wouldn’t be surprised if they put in more trees. It’s going to be interesting to see that tactic and how they go about it.“
Spieth is both wrong and right about DeChambeau at The Masters
It was a fair comment from Spieth, but the truth of the matter is that DeChambeau is still yet to conquer Augusta National.
That said, one year, all of the departments of his game will be in tip-top condition, and he could well blow away the field at The Masters.
The 31-year-old’s prodigious length off the tee obviously gives him a huge advantage.
But to have a chance of winning any of the majors this season, he will definitely need to tighten up his iron play.
One thing that isn’t up for debate is the fact the DeChambeau is one of the best three golfers on the planet right now, alongside McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
And one day in the future, Spieth’s prediction about DeChambeau will undoubtedly come true.
