Dustin Johnson has found his name in the headlines in recent times, but seemingly for all the wrong reasons.

Johnson was a PGA Tour star before his switch to LIV Golf in 2022, with the American quickly becoming a hero on the latter.

He won the individual title in LIV Golf’s inaugural season, adding to his 2016 and 2020 US Open and Masters titles respectively.

Johnson also helped his 4Aces GC side to the team title along with his individual win, with the grass having certainly looked greener at that stage.

But the former world number one has come under fire in more recent times, with Kevin Kisner suggesting Johnson is no longer world-class.

Moreover, Smylie Kaufman said Johnson ‘doesn’t care anymore’ after he finished dead last at LIV Golf Hong Kong earlier this month.

The latter responded immediately by storming to the top of the leaderboard after one round at LIV Golf Singapore, but that is where his success ended.

After carding an opening round eight-under, which also helped 4Aces GC top the team standings, Johnson followed with three-under and two-over rounds.

That led to the two-time major champion finishing T5, eight shots behind champion Joaquin Niemann at Sentosa.

Johnson may have ignored the criticism, but he certainly blew a great chance to answer those critics in the best possible way.

Johnson now has a break in order to get his affairs in order, with LIV Golf returning in Miami early next month.

His latest finish leaves him sitting 26th in the individual standings, with finishes of T44, T31, 54 and T5 from the first four events.

The captain’s 4Aces GC meanwhile occupy eighth in the team standings, finishing third in Singapore after their strong start.

Johnson will get another chance to respond to his heavy criticism on home soil next month, but it seems that the perfect opportunity has been missed.

Future major success will, of course, be on the 40-year-old’s mind along with climbing the LIV Golf leaderboard.

But if his 2024 season was anything to go by, a third major championship is a long way away at this moment in time.
