Tiger Woods has been around that long now that we’ve become used to him speaking and when he does speak, he normally has something we can take away and learn from.

Woods’ achievements on the course are there for everyone to see but as a representative for the game of golf in general, few have done it better than Woods in terms of carrying the game on its back.

Over time, we’ve heard Woods speak on every golfing matter going. Whether that be slow play, comparisons to Jack Nicklaus, or in the modern game about LIV Golf, Tiger has had an opinion on almost everything.

Should Tiger Woods join the PGA Tour Champions?

But what is always interesting when it comes to Woods is to look back on certain quotes he’s made and how they shape him as a character and golfer.

In fact, there are two in particular from Woods that standout a mile when it comes to his mentality.

Tiger Woods mentality shone through with two past comments

There is absolutely no doubting that golf is as much about the mental side of things as the physical side.

Over the years, we’ve seen some of the most talented golfers out there crumble in big moments. When it came to Tiger Woods, that was something he just didn’t do.

The term ‘clutch’ is thrown about a lot but Woods was certainly that, especially in his prime. However, he wasn’t always the super athlete many of us see him as.

In fact, Woods has previously spoken of what got him where he was.

“People don’t understand that when I grew up, I was never the most talented. I was never the biggest. I was never the fastest. I certainly was never the strongest. The only thing I had was my work ethic, and that’s been what has gotten me this far,” Woods said over a decade ago now.

What golfers have said about Tiger Woods joining the PGA Tour Champions

“It would be a thrill to see Tiger come out and play the Champions Tour, and I’m convinced he will play several. Depends how many. I’m going to gradually get older and older here, and I may not be at the very top of my game when he comes out, but he always moves the needle. He’s a very exciting personality to watch, and it would be fantastic for Tiger and for our tour to be competing out there, and I think all the players would welcome him.”

Bernhard Langer

“I’ve said, please come play. And I think it can only be beneficial to him. He will get himself in golf shape. You can ride a cart without any shame and if there was one guy that should be able to drive a cart, it’s him… and he can get his a** back in shape.”

Ernie Els

“I think it would be super for the [PGA Tour Champions] if Tiger is able to play. Great for sponsors, tv, etc. And we will all begin our rounds looking for his name on the board. Where is he? Do we have a chance? Hopefully we do, but maybe not.”

Colin Montgomerie

That is clear, and few have worked harder than Woods over his career.

But what separates him further is his will to win, no matter what the event.

“There’s no sense in going to a tournament if you don’t believe that you can win it. And that is the belief I have always had. And that is not going to change,” Woods claimed all the way back in 2001.

Certainly, he’s more than proven that mindset correct over the years.

Why Arnold Palmer claimed Tiger Woods is the best ever

There are arguments out there as to who is the best golfer ever and it is all subjective.

However, Arnold Palmer had it about right in his assessment of Woods.

“What can’t be argued is this: Tiger Woods is the most dominant, most skilled player we’ve ever seen,” Palmer once said.

Furthermore, Gary Player also agreed.

“Tiger Woods is the greatest player golf has ever seen, but his record is not the best. Jack Nicklaus’ record is the best.”

With Woods having won 15 majors and with 82 PGA Tour wins under his belt, few will ever get close to what he achieved.

But as we can see here, it’s so much about mentality. The skill level just helps.
