Lucas Glover is a proven winner on the PGA Tour, with six victories to his name throughout his career so far.

Glover has been an incredibly consistent performer during his two decades on the PGA Tour.

However, it wasn’t too long ago when his confidence was shot to bits due to one aspect of his game that was causing him huge problems.

Glover is a fierce advocate for improving the pace of play on the PGA Tour, but back in 2016 he had major issues that he needed to resolve.

The 45-year-old developed the ‘yips’ with his putter. There were times when he actually struggled to make contact with the ball when putting.

Glover admitted to feeling completely lost when he had the yips and at one point, he was unsure if he would be able to continue playing on the PGA Tour.

The nightmare Lucas Glover suffered at the 2016 Wyndham Championship

Glover opened up his week at the Wyndham Championship with a one-under par 69.

However, he caught fire on day two, and was 10-under par standing on the 17th tee, with a round of 59 well within reach.

Glover parred the 17th hole, before disaster ensued on his final hole of the day.

The man from Greenville, South Carolina, was left with an 18-inch putt for par – his 60th shot of the day.

What happened next defied belief.

Glover nearly missed the ball completely, and didn’t even come close to touching the hole.

The six-time PGA Tour winner did hole his next putt for a 61, but he was never the same after that until he made a big change in 2023.

How Lucas Glover recovered from the yips

Glover switched to a so-called ‘broom-handle putter’ in 2023.

Whilst he isn’t allowed to anchor the shaft to his chest, the broom-handle style putter enables him to swing the club in more of a pendulum style motion, and thus taking his hands out of the stroke.

After 2011, Glover won once on the PGA Tour, at the 2021 John Deere Classic, before he won two huge tournaments back-to-back in 2023.

Glover wielded his new long putter to great effect, winning in consecutive weeks at the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St Jude Championship.

The broom-handle putter literally saved Glover’s PGA Tour career.

And he must dread thinking about where he would be now, had he not made the decision to change his putting style.
