Tiger Woods is the greatest player of all time in many golf fans’ eyes but he was still unashamedly amazed when watching Bryson DeChambeau back in 2020.

Woods took the game to a whole new stratosphere when he burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s.

PGA Tour and LIV Golf players all have the 49-year-old to thank for the astounding wealth in the game today.

While DeChambeau cannot be compared to Woods, it’s fair to say that he has made the game even more popular with the younger generation of golf fans.

Do you think LIV would survive if Bryson DeChambeau returned to the PGA Tour?

“I think I think Bryson is a star in he’s an amazing golfer.

“He’s also amazing for what he does off the golf course, in that, you know, the bulk of his consumption where people see him is on YouTube, by the way. I mean, they don’t see him on television because the other league doesn’t really draw a lot of viewers.

“Yeah, I think everybody wants to see the best golfers compete. But I will say, there’s a complete misconception about the sport of golf that I think is that any given tournament or competition matters, if there’s the same three or four people in it.

“You want to see the same three or four people in it, but if you look at the depth of talent of the PGA Tour, that competitive parity aspect of it is unrivalled, and there’s no tour on Earth that has the deeper amount of talent than the PGA Tour has. And every sport has stars, but what really makes sports work is also the middle class.“

The two-time US Open champion has really pushed the boundaries when it comes to power hitting off the tee.

DeChambeau is capable of 200+ mph ball speeds – something that wasn’t thought possible before he started bulking up and speed training.

Even the great Tiger Woods was left in awe by the LIV golfer five years ago.

How Tiger Woods felt after witnessing Bryson DeChambeau drive the ball

DeChambeau has actually toned down his speed and distance over the past 12 months.

That said, he still cruises 190+ mph ball speeds during tournament play.

Back in 2020, Woods was asked to give his honest opinion on DeChambeau and, specifically, the extraordinary speed he was generating at the time.

Bryson has put in the time, he has put in the work,” said Woods.

“What he’s done in the gym has been incredible. What he’s done on the range and what he’s done with his entire team to be able to optimise that one club [driver] and transform his game and the ability to hit the ball as far as he has and in as short a span as he has, it’s never been done before.

“I had speed in ‘97, I hit it far. As I got bigger and I filled out and tried to get stronger, it was to not hit the ball further. It was to be more consistent and to be able to practice longer.

Actually I got a little bit shorter as I got into my mid-20s and late-20s. Probably the most speed I ever had, I was 20 years old. So 21, I still had a little bit more speed, but as I got a little bit bigger, I didn’t hit it as far but I got better.

“What Bryson has done has been absolutely incredible, and we have all been amazed at what he’s been able to do in such a short span of time. It’s never been done before.”

You must be doing something truly extraordinary to receive praise like that from Tiger Woods.

And the comments from the 15-time major champion prove just how impressive DeChambeau is off the tee.

What PGA Tour players do you believe LIV Golf can realistically sign before the 2026 season?

LIV could have doubled that figure ($150 million) and the answer would have still been ‘no’.

The lack of world ranking points and being potentially frozen out of the major championships wasn’t worth it.

Whether he will be able to keep it up or, dare I say, get longer, over the next decade remains to be seen, though.

The most amazing thing about Bryson DeChambeau’s long driving in 2025

DeChambeau wowed fans all over the globe in 2025 with his explosive power hitting with his driver.

However, the most impressive thing about his game off the tee was the fact that he was inside the top 10 for driving accuracy as well.

DeChambeau is one of the best two drivers of the golf ball in the professional game, alongside Rory McIlroy.

The challenge for him moving forward will be to improve his iron play, with much more control required.

If DeChambeau manages to do just that while maintaining his extraordinary driving ability, there will be plenty more major wins waiting on the horizon for him.
