The careers of Tony Finau and Scottie Scheffler have taken completely different turns over the past two years or so.
Tony Finau was a breath of fresh air for the PGA Tour when he burst onto the scene back in 2014, while Scottie Scheffler‘s ungainly style allowed him to go more under the radar.
Finau endeared himself to PGA Tour fans immediately with his charisma, style and explosive power.
It didn’t take the 36-year-old long to chalk up his first win on Tour when he reigned supreme at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open, just two years after making his debut.
However, he had to wait five years before winning his second event, at the 2021 Northern Trust Open.

Finau then went on to win six PGA Tour events, but is without a victory since 2023.
Meanwhile, Scheffler, has gone from strength to strength on the PGA Tour, with 19 wins to his name since February 2022.
Finau highlighted Scheffler’s performance at the 2021 Ryder Cup as the main reason behind his recent dominant run in the game.
Now the man from Salt Lake City, Utah, needs to take a lead out of the world number one’s book, if he is to rediscover his best form.
Tony Finau needs to make the same move as Scottie Scheffler to save his career
Finau has fallen 127 places in the Data Golf Rankings in 2025, and now sits in 147th position in the standings.

He recorded just one top-10 finish in 20 events on the PGA Tour last season, and he missed five cuts during those tournaments.
The main reason for Finau’s fall from grace has been his horrendous putting and complete lack of confidence on the greens.
The 36-year-old’s struggles on the greens peaked back in June at The Memorial Tournament.
Finau began putting one-handed, in an effort to stop the bleeding, so to speak.
However, that was the equivalent of putting a tiny band aid on a gaping wound. Finau’s putting problems would only get worse as the year went on.

Now Finau has to do exactly what Scheffler did back in 2023 in order to save his career at the very highest level of the game.
The current world number one started working with putting guru Phil Kenyon two years ago.
Tommy Fleetwood works with Kenyon as well, and his recent improvement on the greens has been obvious for everyone to see.
Now take a look at Scheffler’s putting stats over the past three seasons in comparison to Finau’s:
| Player name | 2025 strokes gained putting rank | 2024 strokes gained putting rank | 2022-23 strokes gained putting rank |
| Finau | 124th | 156th | 125th |
| Scheffler | 20th | 77th | 162nd |
Scheffler was struggling even more than Finau was on the greens in the 2022-23 season.
However, his close work with Kenyon has taken him to another level entirely.
Now the 36-year-old six-time PGA Tour winner needs to make the same move.
How Phil Kenyon can actually help Tony Finau
Kenyon’s putting philosophy centers around a target-oriented routine and the importance of matching up your speed with your start line.
The Englishman’s philosophy is as simple as they come in essence and that’s exactly why Finau needs to give him a call.
The American golfer has made things far too complicated on the greens, and he needs to strip everything back and start again.
Finau looks far too rigid over the ball when he’s putting and everything has become way too technical. There is seemingly no feel in his hands and he lacks any kind of rhythm to his stroke.
By copying what Scheffler did back in 2023 and joining forces with Phil Kenyon, Finau may be able to find his way back inside the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour in 2026.
One thing’s for sure, Finau’s putting can’t get any worse, can it!
