Tony Finau is one of the players Keegan Bradley will be desperate to see more from over the coming months with the Ryder Cup rapidly approaching.
Ever since his USA debut at the 2018 Ryder Cup, Tony Finau has been a stalwart of American sides. The 35-year-old is extremely popular and can seemingly be paired with almost anyone.
However, he has work to do if he hopes to make his first appearance in the competition since 2021. Finau currently sits 15th in the qualification standings. And he has only registered one top 10 finish on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Unfortunately, he looks unlikely to add to his tally this week at The Memorial Tournament.
Fans fear for Tony Finau after worrying clip from The Memorial Tournament
Finau is currently tied for 31st after posting a four over par 76 on Saturday. He has struggled off the tee this week, but he also had an extremely tough day on the greens at Muirfield Village in the third round.
In fact, he resorted to putting one-handed on the 15th hole. He managed to make the putt for a birdie. But it seems that plenty of viewers are extremely concerned by the sight of the world number 37 using just his right hand to putt.
One fan wrote: ‘Tell me you’re struggling without telling me you are struggling’. Meanwhile, another posted: ‘I know he made the putt, but this is not a good thing for Big Tone. He has zero confidence in his putting right now.’
And there was a similar feeling elsewhere, with a viewer stating: ‘As someone who has had the putting yips for 20 years, I can assure you that this is a very bad sign. This is a desperate golfer.’

Another noted how unsustainable such an action is, writing: ‘Yeah this is not a good sign though. Maybe give long putter or some different grips a try but you’re not winning tournaments one handed putting.’
The disappointment continued, with one fan posting: ‘Sad how bad of a putter he is, it’s depressing watching him putt’.
There was support for Finau, with many believing that he will benefit from changing things up. One viewer said: ‘First of all he just made three bogies and second of all he is not a great putter so why not try something different?’
Another wrote: ‘When you’re almost dead last in putting you’ll do anything’. And finally, one person posted: ‘Bad. But he can’t get much worse’.
Where Tony Finau’s putting in the third round ranked amongst the field at Muirfield Village
It will not surprise anyone to know that Finau was down towards the bottom of the field when it came to his strokes gained putting statistics on Saturday.
He lost the best part of two strokes to the field – that number could have been even larger had he not made that one-handed putt on 15.
| Category | Strokes gained | Tony Finau’s field rank (third round) |
| Off the tee | 0.594 | 19th |
| Approach | -1.082 | 44th |
| Around the green | 0.210 | 30th |
| Putting | -1.880 | 53rd |
| Total | -2.158 | 42nd |
Finau is 96th on tour for strokes gained putting this year, so it could be much worse. However, given his quality and potential, it is a worry that he is having so many issues on the greens right now.
