Tommy Fleetwood has actually been in fairly disappointing form on the PGA Tour in 2026.
Fleetwood signed off with a bang in 2025, winning the Tour Championship, playing a key role for Team Europe at the Ryder Cup and then triumphing at the DP World India Championship.
However, the 35-year-old Englishman has been very slow out of the blocks in 2026.
Who is more likely to win a major in 2026? Tommy Fleetwood or Matt Fitzpatrick
He does have five top-10s to his name in nine events so far, but he was really only in contention to win in one of those tournaments.
It’s fair to say that given the standards he has set, Tommy Fleetwood has been one of the most disappointing players on the PGA Tour this season.
The good news for him is that the most important three-month spell of the season lies ahead of him now.
And he will have a big point to prove at the PGA Championship this week.
Tommy Fleetwood must address major issue at the PGA Championship
When we look at Tommy Fleetwood, we picture him as the model of consistency.
After all, he has only missed three cuts since the start of the 2024 season. However, his poor performances in the majors over the past few years have really gone under the radar.
Fleetwood was on a superb run in the major championships in 2023.
He recorded two top-5 finishes and a top-10 in three consecutive majors from the US Open through to The Masters in 2024.

However, he has struggled terribly in the four biggest tournaments ever since.
In eight majors since the 2024 Masters, the Englishman has missed two cuts and doesn’t have a top-10 finish to his name.
His best finishes have been two T-16s at the US Open in 2024 and the Open in 2025 respectively.
That simply has to change moving forward. The Englishman is in his prime now and he cannot continue to let majors simply pass him by if he is to end up as one of the game’s greatest players.
Tommy Fleetwood’s biggest weakness has returned
Fleetwood may feel like his putting stroke is pure right now, but the results simply don’t back that notion up.
The Englishman has had a really frustrating time on the greens in 2026, and is currently ranked 89th in strokes gained putting.
What specific part Tommy Fleetwood’s game do you think he must improve if he is to ever win a major?
Sadly for him, it feels like his biggest weakness is returning at the worst possible time.
Fleetwood ranked 136th in strokes gained putting in 2021 and was 92nd in the same category in 2024.
He made huge strides on the greens in 2025 and rose to 20th in strokes gained putting.
So the fact that he has dropped off so badly this year will be a major concern for him.
Hopefully it will prove to be just a temporary dip in form on the greens, because if he doesn’t address his putting issues, he will almost certainly not win a major championship this year.
