The likelihood of Tiger Woods being the next US Ryder Cup captain has seemingly increased following Brian Rolapp’s press conference ahead of The Players Championship.
It appears that the Ryder Cup captaincy for Adare Manor is Tiger Woods‘ role should he want it. Woods turned down the position ahead of the 2025 event at Bethpage.
Who do you think will win The Players Championship this week?
Scottie is the strong favourite…
However, the big question concerned whether Woods would be too busy as chairman of the Future Competition Committee to take on the Ryder Cup role.
But it was difficult not to take encouragement as Brian Rolapp spoke to the media before the PGA Tour‘s flagship event this week.
Brian Rolapp outlines what the future of the PGA Tour could look like
Rolapp was extremely impressive. He provided further details of how an overhauled PGA Tour schedule will look.
The plan appears to be to have 21 to 26 events on the calendar for the very best players. That season is set to run from January to September, while there is also likely to be a second tier.

Clearly, a lot of ideas need to be finalised. Rolapp did not make any big promises about the future of the tour. However, it is definitely significant that the PGA Tour CEO did not shy away from outlining how the schedule could look in the coming years.
That would suggest that things are moving at an impressive rate behind the scenes. You would expect plenty to be in place by the time Rolapp speaks to the media again at Travelers Championship.
With that, there is reason to think that Woods could have the time to say yes to the PGA of America and take on the Ryder Cup captaincy for next September.
Tiger Woods may have enough time to say yes to the Ryder Cup captaincy
The PGA of America have given Woods a soft deadline of The Masters to decide whether he can commit to the role.
Previously, that made an appointment seem unlikely. It is already difficult to see the new PGA Tour schedule coming into effect in time for 2027.
But Woods would have surely already said no to the role if he was planning to solely focus on the Future Competition Committee until the new calendar was set in stone.
He seemingly left the door open for a reason. With Rolapp dropping a number of exciting hints on Wednesday, it seems entirely possible that Woods will now feel that he can devote enough time to lead Team USA in Ireland.
