There was something of a dream conclusion to the US Women’s Open this past week, with the world number one Nelly Korda emerging from the pack in the final stages to win her fourth major title at Riviera.
Nelly Korda was the woman to beat heading into the second major of the year. She has finished outside the top two on just one occasion so far this year.
But it was fantastic for the LPGA to also have Charley Hull make a superb charge as the Brit looks to win her first major championship.
Like Korda, Hull is a superstar of the current game. She is someone who plays the game in a swashbuckling way, and does not care a great deal about what anyone else thinks about her. It is no surprise that she is one of the most popular players on the circuit.
Of course, it is not the first time that Korda and Hull have been involved in a duel on one of the biggest stages.
Nelly Korda and Charley Hull battle it out over the US Women’s Open
Many will remember Hull’s scintillating performance at the 2024 Solheim Cup where she thrashed Korda 6&4 in the Sunday singles.
Korda joked afterwards that Hull smoked her.
Hull’s display was all the more remarkable because Korda had won all three of her matches over the first two days at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Team USA would have the last laugh, with Stacy Lewis’s side winning. But Hull made a real statement by blowing Korda away.
There now looks to be a real possibility of the pair being given the chance to have a rematch later this year.
It is an opportunity that neither Anna Nordqvist nor Angela Stanford should shy away from when the Solheim Cup heads to Netherlands. Both captains should look to put their star players out first.
Nelly Korda and Charley Hull could help elevate the Solheim Cup to the next level
The Solheim Cup has closed the gap on the Ryder Cup over the last decade. When it comes to drama, the Solheim Cup has actually delivered so much more in recent years.
But having Korda and Hull leading their respective sides out on Sunday could help elevate the event to the next level.
The world’s best player going up against the game’s biggest maverick could lead to fireworks.
Obviously, much will depend on the state of the matches heading into the final session. But it is the kind of battle that fans could get completely lost in if they are able to find their best form.
What happened at Riviera on Sunday whet the appetite for another face-off between Korda and Hull down the line.
Hopefully, the two captains give the fans exactly what they want when the Solheim Cup comes around.
