It should have come as no surprise to anyone that Nelly Korda and Charley Hull were picked to lead their respective teams off on Sunday at the Solheim Cup, as Europe looked for the fast start which would give them hope of a stunning comeback.
Suzann Pettersen simply had no choice but to front load her team, with Europe starting the final day of the Solheim Cup 10-6 down. Stacy Lewis meanwhile, would have known what was coming from the opposition, so would have wanted to leave nothing to chance.
Nelly Korda and Charley Hull found themselves in the first match of the week, with Korda, alongside Allisen Corpuz, coming out on top against Hull and rookie Esther Henseleit.
Hull and Emily Pedersen were the only players all week to play all five matches, so it made sense that Pettersen trusted them to play in the first two matches in the Sunday singles. And of course, that meant that Hull faced off against Korda for the second time in the week.
Nelly Korda replies to Charley Hull after Solheim Cup singles clash
What few may have seen coming was Hull’s emphatic victory over Korda, with the Englishwoman winning 6&4 against the world number one – who had won all three of her matches across the first two days.

Unfortunately for Hull, Europe were not quite able to complete the miracle comeback, but it was clearly still another amazing week for the 28-year-old, who took to Instagram to comment on making her seventh appearance in the competition.
And Korda was amongst those to reply with a brilliant message for her singles opponent…

Hull already one of the all-time greats in the Solheim Cup
Hull’s performance over the final two days proved that she absolutely has the game to win in the major championships. To date, she has finished second in three of the five majors, while she has at least one top six finish at all of them.
The issue is potentially putting all of it together across four rounds. Hull did incredibly to rise through the field as she did at the Olympics after carding an 81 in the opening round at Le Golf National.
Remarkably, Hull is now into the top 10 for all-time points scorers at the Solheim Cup, with 16.5 points coming in 27 matches. She certainly seems to have every chance of catching Dame Laura Davies’ record tally of 25 points before her career comes to an end.
