It is fair to say that the decision from the OWGR to award LIV Golf with world ranking points at long last did not go down well with everyone associated with the breakaway league.
After years of being snubbed by the OWGR, LIV Golf will finally receive world ranking points from the 2026 season onwards.
Which LIV Golf player do you think will make the biggest jump in the world rankings in 2026?
The OWGR are awarding points for top 10 finishes from this season!
However, the announcement was not enough to appease those on LIV.
LIV Golf figures were left frustrated with the OWGR decision
Scott O’Neil criticised the fairness of the decision, with Jon Rahm also frustrated that only the top 10 at LIV events will receive points.
It seems that there is likely to be further talks to come. But in the meantime, LIV may have a fantastic opportunity to use the OWGR decision to their advantage each week.

Obviously, the points for 10th place are not particularly significant. The player who finishes 29th at the WM Phoenix Open this week will receive a similar amount.
However, after years of not receiving any points, a 10th place finish could be extremely lucrative to a number of figures on LIV who have tumbled down the rankings.
With that, the league now has another storyline they can build their final day coverage around. There will be another prize on offer for the player who manages to squeeze into the top 10.
LIV has an opportunity to add another layer to the excitement at their events
Obviously, 10th place on LIV did not see players leave empty-handed last year. That player would receive $405,000 in 2025, while they would also receive points in the LIV standings, according to Golf Monthly.
But that position now has additional significance with world ranking points up for grabs.
Fans of Formula One have seen in the past how the race for that final point can add another layer to the excitement, particularly if the podium looks to be decided. It could make a real difference to a player further down the standings.
You would imagine that LIV will receive more points at some stage in the future. It is clearly a good sign for them that they have managed to win the OWGR around to this degree.
In the meantime, they should look to make the most of how much more valuable 10th place has become each week.
