Jon Rahm has issued his reaction to the news that LIV Golf events will receive world ranking points for the first time during the 2026 season.

It definitely appeared to be in the OWGR’s best interests to reach an agreement with LIV Golf that led to their events being recognised. It is almost farcical to have Jon Rahm barely inside the top 100 in the standings.

Which LIV Golf player do you think will make the biggest jump in the world rankings in 2026?

But the announcement that came this week did not appear to satisfy those on LIV.

The OWGR confirmed that those who finish inside the top 10 at LIV events will receive points. It was noted that the league has failed to address certain issues.

Scott O’Neil expressed his disappointment with the decision ahead of the first round in Riyadh on Wednesday.

And Rahm has echoed those views, insisting that it is not fair to not award points to those who finish outside the top 10 at each event.

“Yeah, it’s fantastic that we’re getting points. It’s fantastic that we’re being recognized in a way,” he said.

“With that said, I don’t like how we’re not being treated the same as every other tour. It seems like the rules that have been in place don’t really apply to us, with only 10 of us getting points. It doesn’t seem fair. The small fields out there throughout the course of the year, their players get full points.

“There’s work to be done. There’s work to be done. While it’s good for some people, it could cause some players to actually lose world ranking points instead of gaining them because finishing 11th is basically a missed cut, and we’re already adding to the divisor.

“But I’m thankful that I would say LIV Golf got their foot in the door, and there’s a possibility for us to walk in the room and be recognized as a tour, as we should be.”

How often Jon Rahm has finished outside the top 10 in his LIV Golf career

It seems that this debate is going to rumble on for some time.

Ultimately, LIV are highly unlikely to change how the team event works. So there is little chance of the league receiving the points they feel they are entitled to.

It is positive news for Rahm personally. The Spaniard has been outstanding since making the jump from the PGA Tour, winning the individual title in both seasons.

Rahm has finished outside the top 10 in just one event since his move. That was an 11th place finish in Dallas last season.

So while it is going to be a tall order to get back inside the top 10 in the OWGR, Rahm’s ranking should soon be much closer to where he truly sits in the game.
