There is real uncertainty surrounding the future of LIV Golf at the moment.

LIV Golf was formed in June 2022 to compete directly with the PGA Tour.

In the early stages of their inception, it seemed they would not only be able to compete with the PGA Tour, but surpass them entirely.

LIV managed to poach some of the PGA Tour’s biggest names, including the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm.

However, things haven’t worked out well for LIV. They have struggled to establish themselves as an elite golf tour, while the PGA Tour has gone from strength to strength.

Claims emerged earlier this month that LIV were facing financial difficulties, with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment fund considering pulling out of funding the project.

With LIV Golf Louisiana being postponed, and PIF set to pull their funding, nobody really knows what the future holds for the league right now.

If LIV Golf does fold, there will be plenty of players hoping to return to the PGA Tour.

Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Smith should all be offered the same deal they were offered in January.

This time, Brian Rolapp needs to make it clear that it is, indeed, a one-time only offer.

If they refuse the offer, it will not be sent their way ever again.

Every other LIV golfer who wishes to return to the PGA Tour has two options.

They can either join the Korn Ferry Tour and earn their way back to the top table or attempt to gain a DP World Tour card.

From there, the pathway back to the PGA Tour is a lot clearer. This is the route that Patrick Reed decided to take after parting ways with LIV Golf earlier this year.

The thing we all have to remember here is that those who chose to join LIV Golf made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

Decisions to join LIV Golf should come with consequences

There should be no easy route back to the PGA Tour for any player.

Who knows, LIV Golf may well survive but it’s highly unlikely that it will ever flourish as a golf tour.

If the likes of Rahm and DeChambeau are to ever repair their damaged reputations, they simply must return to the PGA Tour.

With LIV Golf’s future completely uncertain right now, the PGA Tour must capitalise on their position of strength.

They should try and finish off LIV Golf while they are at their weakest by bringing the biggest names back.

However, aside from DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith, any other golfer who wants to return to the PGA Tour should be made to do it the hard way.
