The simple fact of the matter is that we, as golf fans, cannot have it both ways when it comes to the Scottie Scheffler narrative.
The current world number one has been the dominant figure on the PGA Tour and, indeed, in the professional game in general over the past four years.
Scheffler has 20 PGA Tour wins to his name, including four major championships, since February 2022. Golf fans have marvelled at his consistent brilliance for more than four years now.
Do you think Scottie Scheffler is ‘too boring’ or ‘overly emotional’?
Because golf fans can't have it both ways…
However, the same criticism has been aimed at the 29-year-old from Dallas time and time again. “Scheffler is too boring”, some have claimed. “He lacks personality needed to drive interest in the PGA Tour”, others have suggested.
When speaking to reporters after his rounds, he usually gives fairly short answers without much insight into what he’s actually thinking.
As a result, he has been accused of being too robotic and it has been suggested that, as one of the leading faces of the PGA Tour, the onus is on him to provide more compelling responses during his media appearances.
However, at the same time, Scheffler has been receiving serious criticism for his recent emotional outbursts on the golf course from the same fans who have labeled him as “too boring”!

You really couldn’t make it up. Golf fans cannot have it both ways. He’s either too boring or too overly emotional. The narrative surrounding the world number one right now is not only absurdly contradictory, but it is totally unfair as well.
How Scottie Scheffler’s stoic persona and recent outbursts have reshaped PGA Tour fan engagement
The fan engagement surrounding Scheffler right now is a really bizarre phenomenon.
Firstly, it’s worth highlighting that the 29-year-old is more highly-scrutinized because he is the world number one golfer.
Take a look on your social media accounts now and see how many golf fans are accusing Scheffler of setting a poor example with some of his actions on the golf course.
Scheffler let loose on the 18th hole at Bay Hill on Friday after three-putting the final green, hurling his golf ball into the water next to the putting surface.

Another of the Texan’s golf balls bit the dust when he did the same on Saturday early on in his round after playing his first five holes in three-over par.
Just take a look at some of the replies to this post from Golf.com on their X account, after Scheffler hurled his ball into the water on Friday…
Do golf fans who criticize Scottie really want him to show more emotion? Or are they simply criticizing him for the sake of it?
In fairness, that is a common phenomenon with the greatest athletes in all sports. They are under the microscope more than others and are often held to higher standards than everyone else.
Scottie Scheffler’s golf should be enough to drive PGA Tour fan engagement
The bottom line, in my opinion, is that if you are unable to appreciate Scottie Scheffler, then that is your issue rather than his.
He has displayed levels of golf over the past few years that we have not seen since Tiger Woods’ heyday.
Sure, he’s not as electric as Woods was on the golf course, and his responses during press conferences can sometimes be on the mundane side, but he is a fascinating character in so many other ways.
Are you concerned about Scottie Scheffler right now?
He is really struggling with his first rounds right now…
For instance, his comments before The Open Championship in 2025 when he questioned why he wanted to win so badly when the feeling of joy after doing so is so fleeting genuinely shocked the golfing world.
He has an uncanny knack of being able to leave everything behind on the 18th green. Despite showing anger this week at Bay Hill, as soon as he has stepped off the golf course, he has immediately reset.
That is a wonderful thing to be able to do and not many professional golfers possess that quality, if any at all.
If you are a fan who criticizes Scheffler for being “too boring” then you should embrace the moments where he lets everything out and shows raw, unvetted emotion.
Scheffler’s golf in itself means that he will always draw positive attention to the PGA Tour, and golf fans need to start picking a side regarding the way they perceive the world number one.
