Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau both have big ambitions to win the US Open at Oakmont this week.

DeChambeau already has two US Open titles to his name and he undoubtedly has the skillset needed to contend at Oakmont.

Meanwhile, Schauffele should be one of the favourites to win this week on paper, but he hasn’t shown great form since returning from injury earlier this season.

Schauffele and his coach lauded DeChambeau after the PGA Championship at Valhalla last year.

And DeChambeau returned the favour when praising Schauffele after The Open Championship at Royal Troon in July.

Both players have exceptional talent.

However, there is one thing DeChambeau is capable of doing which Schauffele quite simply is not.

Schauffele is one of the longest players in the game right now.

However, he’s not in DeChambeau’s league when it comes to length off the tee.

And Schauffele mentioned his fellow countryman when asked how he plans to tackle the 10th hole at Oakmont this week.

He said, I haven’t played it since it’s been softer, but when I first — for the first time, it was firmer, and I hit 3-wood, gap wedge into what I thought was a back pin. I think the play today would probably be a 3-wood of some sort and maybe a 9-iron or 8-iron.

He was then asked whether he plans to carry the ravine on the 10th this week.

Schauffele responded, No. The ravine, no. I think Bryson is the only one who would think twice about carrying it. It might just be an iron from off the tee. I’m not sure how far the ravine is. I might be capable of one-hopping it, but I don’t think my caddie is going to allow me to do that.

Everything you need to know about the 10th hole at Oakmont

The 10th at Oakmont is a 460-yard par four.

In 2016, the 10th was the fourth hardest hole on the golf course, with a stroke average of 4.33.

It will take a mammoth hit of around 330-360 yards through the air to carry the ravine that runs through the middle of the fairway, depending on where the USGA set up the tee.

DeChambeau is the longest hitter in golf, but even he may struggle to fly his ball over the ravine, depending on the direction of the wind.

And like Schauffele said, nobody else in the field aside from DeChambeau will even contemplate taking on the huge carry on the 10th hole at the US Open this week.
