Xander Schauffele has shared his thoughts on the US Open at Pinehurst No.2 after finishing T7.

After struggling with the driver during the first two days, the American appeared to be back towards his best on Sunday, finishing with a two-under 68.

The 30-year-old will be pleased with his effort on the problematic Pinehurst set-up, particularly when not playing at his absolute best.

Schauffele is back in action at the Travelers Championship this week and has been speaking to the press about his experience at Pinehurst last week.

The 30-year-old initially admitted that he was really pleased with his final round on Sunday.

“Really kind of a weird week. I hit the ball best on Sunday. I played well. Two under was a good score on that property,” he explained.

“Thursday and Friday were pretty gritty. I wasn’t hitting it very well and missing a lot of fairways that were supposed to be forgiving and then putted pretty well.”

Schauffele did suggest that his putting let him down badly during the third round.

He added: “Saturday, I kind of turned it around and ended up putting horrible. Overall, I couldn’t really get it going at any given point. It’s nice to finish on a good note, playing well on Sunday. Really didn’t feel like I had a chance to win at any point.”

Xander Schauffele has impressed since PGA Championship triumph at Valhalla

To contend in the US Open immediately after his maiden major championship victory is mightily impressive.

Furthermore, when considering Schauffele wasn’t at his best, all the signs are good heading into The Open at Royal Troon.

It really wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the American challenge at the Travelers Championship this week.

Scottie Scheffler looked out of sorts at Pinehurst, which could present an opportunity for one of the chasing pack.

After tasting victory in 2022, there’s every chance of Schauffele landing another title in Connecticut this week.
