Xander Schauffele continued his remarkable streak of making the cut on PGA Tour events as he snuck into the weekend at one under at The Players.
Still finding his form since returning from injury, Schauffele struggled to keep pace with playing partners Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler and had to rely on the cut line keeping him in the event.
Luckily, Schauffele just managed to sneak in as a flurry of poor play from the late finishes ensured that cut line did indeed remain at minus one.
For Schauffele, it’s all about getting reps in and he’ll be happy to make the weekend.
However, the two-time major winner did admit after his second round that there’s something bothering him a lot in his game.

Xander Schauffele says why he’s struggling on the golf course right now
With Schauffele continuing his cut streak, there’ll be an element of him deep down that is just delighted to get into the weekend.
However, the number two player in the world also wants to play well and Schauffele has admitted that he’s struggling to translate his practice sessions into the actual rounds.
“Surprisingly it feels kind of close, which is, I know, pretty sick to say,” Schauffele admitted. “
I know a lot of guys say that, but I’ll get a little bit cosier on the range and kind of get in a decent pattern, and then as soon as I get on the course it seems to get a little bit more crooked.
“I’m not sure if it’s something setup related or something that I’m not doing or not doing on the course that I do on the range, but it feels pretty bad.”
Xander Schauffele’s first two rounds of The Players 2025 in numbers
While Schauffele will be happy to make the weekend, he won’t be too happy at sitting some ten shots off the leaders.
However, he can only really look at himself and a number of costly bogeys, and not enough birdies, have seen him slip down the leaderboard.
| Xander Schauffele at The Players – Round one and two | Result |
| Overall score | 143 |
| Pars made | 24 |
| Birdies or better | 7 |
| Bogeys or worse | 5 |
Schauffele will need far better going into the final two rounds and if he is to climb the leaderboard, he needs putts to start dropping and quickly.
