Xander Schauffele is one of the big names missing from the PGA Tour fields at the moment as the golf world awaits his return from injury.

Schauffele played at the Sentry to kick off the season but finished down in 30th as he looked a long way off the form he showed to win two majors in 2024.

Afterwards, it became apparent that Schauffele was carrying an injury and that injury has become clearer since, with the world number two missing multiple events due to a rib muscle problem.

Schauffele is said to be targeting the Genesis for his return, with the WM Open in Phoenix likely coming too soon this week.

Interestingly, though, the PGA Tour have now released footage of Schauffele discussing his injury and hinting at a comeback.

Xander Schauffle speaks out after missing PGA Tour events through injury

In footage released by the PGA ahead of a documentary coming up on Schauffele, the American speaks about his injury and reveals that he shouldn’t have played The Sentry, before suggesting he won’t be back until he’s completely ready.

“The Sentry was tough. In honesty I probably shouldn’t have played Sentry. I was trying my hardest for me to sort of come into the new year, semi hurt, get worse, now I’m side lined.

“Just trying to learn from this really and come back at 100%,” Schauffele said.

What Xander Schauffele does on the range to improve his golf

Being the second best golfer in the world means there isn’t too much room for improvement your golf game to be had.

However, like all the very best, Xander Schauffele grinds away and wants to find those small percentages that make the difference.

Indeed, Schauffele himself has revealed some of his range secrets recently, and for Schauffele, it’s not just about swinging golf clubs aimlessly.

“I rarely go to the range just to swing a club,” he said. “I’m definitely working on something. I’d say general warm up you always start with low clubs, kind of get in the swing of things,” he said.

“Kind of turn it both ways a little bit. A little left-to-right, a little right-to-left, and then you can slowly advance through the bag.

“Be on a range that’s not too hard to sort of put the blinders on and really try to replicate the feeling you have now when you’re in a tournament. Obviously you’re going to be a little bit more amped up and high-strung.”

With the Genesis coming up in two weeks, Schauffele will hope to be back in the field and getting back to competing at the level we all know he’s capable of.

Quite whether the injury will hamper him at all this season, remains to be seen.
