Wyndham Clark carded an impressive five-under 67 on day one of the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
The Florida venue certainly showed its teeth on Thursday. Max Homa finished nine over, and Cameron Young ended the day ten over. Strong winds, thick rough and firm greens were the course’s defence, meaning any under-par score was impressive.
As for Clark, the 2023 US Open champ has a decent record at Bay Hill and seemingly likes the challenge. Clark finished runner-up to Scottie Scheffler 12 months ago before pushing the world number one close at The Players Championship.
Wyndham Clark reflects on the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational

Speaking after his first-round 67, Clark admitted Scheffler’s imperious 2024 form coincided with his fine early season performances.
“It’s unfortunate. I had a few tournaments last year that if Scottie wasn’t in the field I would have won. But that happens, and I was really pleased with my finishes,” Clark said.
“Maybe I can get some redemption in these next few weeks, and hopefully, Scottie’s not up there.”
Scheffler is one under after day one of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, having faced the worst of the conditions. Scheffler admitted that the firm greens were particularly challenging.
Wyndham Clark continues positive start to 2025 season
Clark will be looking to finally capitalise on yet another fast start at this weekend’s Signature Event. The world number seven finished T15 at The Sentry and T16 at the WM Phoenix Open.
During the event at TPC Scottsdale, Clark was once again the round one pacesetter after shooting 64. However, the one-time major winner faded during the weekend.
Back on a course he clearly likes, Clark must show he’s capable of maintaining this level of performance throughout 72 holes. Too often, the American falls out of contention.
If Clark can keep pace this week, the Denver-born star will be heavily fancied at next week’s Players Championship. Clark fell agonisingly short at TPC Sawgrass 12 months ago.
