Wyndham Clark matches record at the Arnold Palmer Invitational just a day after Shane Lowry set it

The Arnold Palmer Invitational is well underway at Bay Hill and we are heading into a superb final round on Sunday.

Scottie Scheffler and Shane Lowry lead the way at the top but there are a whole host of players in contention to win one of the most coveted tournaments on the PGA Tour.

Rory McIlroy is one of those in contention after a stunning back nine and a record breaking 10th hole put him firmly among the chasing pack.

All in all, it’s been what the PGA needed after a few uninspiring weekends and the big guns are certainly trying to shine.

Of the players doing the business, both the aforementioned Shane Lowry and the ever-improving Wyndham Clark have also made their own piece of history this weekend.

Wyndham Clark matches Shane Lowry’s history-making feat at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

We saw in round two how Lowry went on a remarkable birdie run to get into contention. As part of that, he became the first player since records began at the tournament (1983) to shoot three consecutive threes on holes 10, 11 and 12.

However, quite remarkably, Lowry’s record has lasted just a day as Wyndham Clark also matched the feat in his excellent third round.

Clark went birdie, birdie, eagle to match Lowry and fire himself up the leader board in fine style ahead of what could be a big Sunday shootout.

Lowry was actually in contention last time out but drifted away. The Irishman seems to have found his way again though and will be part of the final group alongside Scheffler tomorrow.

Indeed, another run like this between 10 and 12 could well give both players a chance at winning.
