Will Zalatoris has unfortunately struggled with back injuries throughout his professional golf career.
The 29-year-old has undergone multiple surgeries, and the most recent kept him out for seven months.
His last appearance was at the PGA Championship in May, and he is finally making his return at the Nedbank Golf Challenge this week.
The good news is that Zalatoris seems to have made a full recovery, or potentially even better.

Will Zalatoris feels like a different player after latest back surgery
Back injuries are always a worry for every athlete, but they can be particularly problematic for golfers.
So, Zalatoris’ history of back problems would have raised concerns that he might never fulfil his superstar potential.
However, the American is convinced that his latest surgery was so successful that it has actually made him a better player.
“You know, I battled it for about four years, did every modality that is under the sun to try to get back to being healthy, but essentially, I had gotten to a point where I was bone on bone and needed some help,” Zalatoris said.
“And so the fake discs have been incredible. When I woke up from the first surgery I ever had, it was almost like, ‘man, I’ve got a long way to go to recovery’.
Who do you think should win the 2025 PGA Tour Player of the Year award?
“This one was almost like a rebirth, where I’m waking up feeling taller, feeling more structured in my back, and it’s made my golf swing better without even making some changes.”
Zalatoris added that his back feels 50 percent stronger than it previously did, which should be a platform for success going forward.
“Going into all those different things, but that’s what I’ve had to do for three years, and it feels so good to be on the other side of it,” he added.
“I know for a few years, I would kind of just say, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m doing OK, I’m doing pretty good’. But this is… if that was my 100%, this is like 150%.”

Will Zalatoris is chasing ‘most important’ win of his career
Will Zalatoris has won two professional golf tournaments, one on the PGA Tour and another on the Korn Ferry Tour.
His biggest victory came at the 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship, beating Sepp Straka on the third playoff hole.
But even though that is a bigger event, Zalatoris would take more satisfaction from winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge this week after all that he has been through lately.
“Considering everything I’ve gone through the last three years, it would probably be the most important win I’ve ever had,” he added.
“You know, going through those few years that I’ve had, not knowing if I was going to be able to play again, no matter what injury you go through, sometimes that’ll creep into your mind. But the fact that I’m on the other side of it now is so gratifying.”
