Injuries are part and parcel of any sport but when someone has to go and have major surgery as a golfer, it’s always a touch worrying.

Sustaining a serious injury or having to undergo surgery is always a worry for golfers.

Given the swing mechanics behind getting the ball down the fairways and into the greens, a lot of work goes into keeping your back, legs, and hands all in the best shape possible.

Indeed, we’ve seen the impact surgery has had on Tiger Woods over the years, while Jordan Spieth battled all last year with a wrist problem and is still finding his way back to form and fitness after surgery.

Now, another PGA Tour star and winner, Will Zalatoris, has announced he too has gone under the knife and he’ll now miss an extended period.

Will Zalatoris announces he’s had major surgery and will miss months

For Will Zalatoris, being injured and especially his back, is becoming part and parcel of his career.

Still only 28, Zalatoris has missed periods of time already with injury and his back is proving particularly troublesome for him.

Now, taking to his Instagram just weeks out from the US Open getting underway, Zalatoris has confirmed his back has once again come back to haunt him and he’s opted to have surgery to rectify the issue.

Zalatoris will now miss months of the season after confirming he wants to return by The Fall.

Zalatoris will be hoping this cures his issues once and for all and come the 2026 season, he can make a real go of being a winner again.

He has currently won just once on TOUR, although he has come up just short in multiple majors, losing out to both Justin Thomas and Matt Fitzpatrick on the final day.

Will Zalatoris’ injury history as he undergoes yet more surgery

Most players can come back from one bit of surgery but there is a worrying trend emerging in the career of Will Zalatoris and deep down, he’ll have concerns.

In 2022 he had a similar issue with herniated discs, while in 2023, he opted for microdiscectomy surgery as he missed out on the Masters.

In 2024, Zalatoris attempted to change his swing and once again, he pulled out of The Masters, this time just minutes before he was due to tee off as his back troubled him once again.

This season, he’s already withdrawn from the Byron Nelson and the Rocket Mortgage Classic, while he finally had more pain at the PGA Championship.

For his sake and golf in general, he will be hoping this latest round of treatment does the business.

If not, Zalatoris might find his career coming to a halt much earlier than he’d ever anticipated.
