Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed both left the PGA Tour to link up with LIV Golf in 2022.
As a result, their chances of representing Team USA at the Ryder Cup have been seriously hindered.
However, DeChambeau is currently sitting inside the top six on the U.S. Ryder Cup points list, whilst Reed‘s recent win at LIV Dallas led to calls for him to be included in the team for the showdown with the Europeans at Bethpage Black.
Reed is affectionately known as ‘Captain America’ due to his tenacious and combative performances for the United States during Ryder Cups of the past.
However, Keegan Bradley has been warned that picking Reed would add a level of toxicity to the team-room that really isn’t needed.

Meanwhile, DeChambeau is surely an absolute lock for the team. The 31-year-old has been playing some tremendously consistent golf over the past year, and he has featured in all of the major championships aside from the US Open at Oakmont this year.
DeChambeau recently said that he wants Bradley to play at the Ryder Cup, and he will be hoping that the US captain thinks the same about him.
Whether US players would rather Bryson DeChambeau or Patrick Reed at the Ryder Cup
Team USA looks incredibly strong at the top end, but unlike years gone by, the bottom half looks comparatively weaker than usual.
That means that certain LIV players are in with a shot of being picked by Bradley.
DeChambeau will undoubtedly be at Bethpage, while Reed and Brooks Koepka are being mooted for a spot on the team as well.
However, who would the top American players prefer to be called up by Bradley?
The 5 Clubs Podcast panel all discussed who would be a better fit for the U.S. Team out of DeChambeau and Reed.
Host Gary Williams said: “He is on the team, right? [DeChambeau, even as a captain’s pick]. He is comfortably on the team. It’s a TV show and not that the Ryder Cup needs certain things, but if he falls to seventh or eighth or whatever he is going to be on the team.
“I feel like the other part of it is the cleansing. I don’t know if they [the other players] love him but they are cool with him.“
Johnson Wagner replied: “They are much cooler with Bryson than P Reed, 100%.“

To which Williams responded: “When I say cool with him, I mean that relatively speaking. He is not one of the fellas. He’s not. Can we stop the P Reed thing cold? He is not going to be on the Ryder Cup.“
And Wagner replied: “There is no way he is going to be on the Ryder Cup team unless he wins The Open and gets there on points there is no way he is going to get picked.“
Before Taylor Zarzour entered the debate by saying: “I think the people who are making those choices do not want him on the team. I don’t think they want to pick him. I don’t think they are pulling for him either for the same reasons. But if he has a chance to win The Open we might have to have this conversation again, but I don’t think they want to have to pick him.“
If Reed wins The Open – something that he’s definitely capable of doing with his ability to control his ball flight and his incredible short game – Bradley will certainly be left with a huge decision to make.
Bryson DeChambeau vs Patrick Reed: 2025 results compared
Both players have been in fine form recently, but DeChambeau just has the edge over his countryman when it comes to his performances on LIV and in major championships.
Here are both of their records from 2025 compared:
| Results | DeChambeau | Reed |
| LIV events played | 9 | 9 |
| LIV wins | 1 | 1 |
| LIV top-10s | 7 | 4 |
| Majors played | 3 | 3 |
| Major wins | 0 | 0 |
| Major top-10s | 2 | 1 |
| Major missed cuts | 1 | 1 |
It would be a huge shock if DeChambeau isn’t on the U.S. team at Bethpage.
Conversely though, if Reed is left out of the team it does feel like the United States would be missing a big trick.
His career record at the Ryder Cup of seven wins, three defeats and two halves shows just how much he loves team competition.
Put it this way, who would the European players prefer to take on – someone like Maverick McNealy, Brian Harman and Andrew Novak or Reed?
The answer to that question is pretty obvious in my mind, taking the LIV golfer’s Ryder Cup record into account.
