Patrick Reed made the shock decision to leave LIV Golf last week, and has already been told that he can return to the PGA Tour in August of this year.
Reed was actually out of contract with LIV at the end of last season, but that only became common knowledge after the American won in Dubai nine days ago.
After he announced his exit from LIV, the PGA Tour released a statement about Reed, suggesting that he will be eligible to regain his status with them in August 2026.
Is Patrick Reed leaving the end of LIV Golf?
First Brooks, now Reed…who will be next?
And now Jon Rahm and his fellow LIV golfer and Legion XIII team member, Tyrrell Hatton, have reacted to Reed’s decision to return to the PGA Tour.
LIV made a huge mistake by not tying Reed down to a new deal sooner.
After Brooks Koepka left LIV, he proved that there was, in fact, a viable route back to the PGA Tour on offer.
And the 2018 Masters champion followed suit.
Whether Jon Rahm was happy when Patrick Reed left LIV Golf
Rahm is one of LIV’s most important players, alongside Bryson DeChambeau.
After Koepka was reinstated as a PGA Tour member, the powers that be at LIV would undoubtedly have been concerned about more high-profile exits.
With that in mind, the LIV hierarchy would have been listening closely to what the two-time major champion had to say about Reed’s recent exit.
Rahm responded when asked to give his opinion on Reed’s exit from LIV Golf.

“I think each one is going to do whatever he thinks is best for them,“ the Spaniard admitted.
“At this point, I just wish him nothing but the best of luck. Hopefully it all goes well.
“We’re free to choose where we want to play golf. At least that’s how it should be. And he’s made his choice, obviously.
“Nothing really against him. He’s been playing fantastic golf, and if he wants to go back, he should have the chance to do so.“
Tyrrell Hatton delivers on Patrick Reed’s LIV exit
Hatton followed Rahm in commenting on Reed’s decision to leave LIV Golf.
He was asked what he really made of the 35-year-old American jumping ship from LIV last week.
“I don’t really have too much more to add on that, other than he was out of contract,“ the Englishman said.
Do you think Patrick Reed is treated unfairly by golf fans?
He's certainly not the most popular player in the game…
“He had options and decided that for him to move forward that he wanted to go back and play on the PGA TOUR. That’s his choice.
“He’s an amazing player. If he was playing on LIV still, he makes the league stronger, but he’s chosen his path, and you can only wish him the best moving forward.“
Of course, Reed cannot play on the PGA Tour for another seven months.
He will be playing the majority of his golf on the DP World Tour in 2026, before he is eligible to return to the PGA Tour later this year.
The good news as far as Reed is concerned is that Rahm and Hatton are clearly happy for him that he has been allowed to pursue his chosen path.
And that is what professional golf should really be all about.
