Patrick Reed has announced his departure from LIV Golf and his intention to return to the PGA Tour next season.
Reed hinted at his decision after he won the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic last week by revealing that he was not under contract.
Many assumed that he would soon reach an agreement with LIV and play in the season opener in Saudi Arabia next week.
Instead, he has quit the league and will spend the rest of 2026 playing on the DP World Tour before returning to the United States full-time in 2027.
The PGA Tour have now released an official statement confirming how and when Reed will be allowed to rejoin.

PGA Tour make statement on Patrick Reed’s return
The PGA Tour’s statement explained that Reed has not violated any regulations, meaning he will be eligible to return later this year.
“Patrick Reed has informed the PGA Tour of his desire to return,” the Tour’s official statement read.
“A nine-time PGA Tour winner, he is seeking reinstatement of his PGA Tour membership for the 2027 season, playing out of the past champion category.
“As a result of resigning his membership in 2022 prior to violating any PGA Tour regulations, Patrick is eligible to compete on the PGA Tour as a non-playing member beginning on August 25, 2026. He may also pursue improved PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour.
“Similar to anyone reinstated under the Returning Member Program, any former PGA Tour member returning to the PGA Tour would be ineligible for participation in the Player Equity Program through 2030.”
Reed’s first event could be the Tour Championship at the end of August, although it is more likely to be one of the FedExCup Fall events in September or October.

Patrick Reed will give PGA Tour another boost after Brooks Koepka
Patrick Reed is the second player to leave LIV Golf for the PGA Tour after Brooks Koepka decided in December.
This is a significant blow to LIV, who now only have a few of the world’s best players on their roster.
As for the PGA Tour, they will be delighted that two of the biggest names in American golf are returning.
Koepka and Reed are both divisive characters who will draw attention to any event they participate in.
Having also not lost any players to LIV during the offseason, the Tour is in the strongest position they have been since 2021.
