Where Jon Rahm actually places in the world rankings if LIV Golf events were counted

Jon Rahm is the new LIV Golf champion after winning yet another event his weekend at LIV Chicago.

Rahm saw off a season long challenge from Joaquin Niemann to bring home the trophy and pocket another nice amount to add to the coffers.

Indeed, Rahm won a cool $22m at LIV Chicago to take him to above $37m for the year. But that is alongside his mega-money contract signed to simply go and play on the LIV Tour.

Remarkably, it still doesn’t put him above the money earned by Scottie Scheffler this year on the PGA Tour, with the world number one pocketing a staggering $67m.

Of course, money aside, there is the question of world rankings.

Currently, the OWGR is not recognising LIV events and subsequently, Rahm has dropped from number two in the world down to 15, with only scores at the four majors counting in 2024.

However, while the OWGR doesn’t add those points, website Data Golf does take more into consideration and this is where Rahm comes out smelling of roses.

According to Data Golf, Rahm’s performances this year put him well among the top players in the world and he sits behind only Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler on that metric.

Rahm is by far and away the best LIV player on those rankings, although Niemann comes along in 15th with Tyrrell Hatton not too far behind in 17th.

Beyond those three, though, not many of the LIV guys make it.

Louis Oosthuizen just about makes the top 25, with Brooks Koepka further back than you’d imagine in the 30s.

Sooner or late, the OWGR and whoever else need to come together to sort this out.

LIV Golf looks like it’s here to stay and while they do play over 54 holes, there has to be a way for at least some of their events to count towards the official ranking system.
